She might be annoying but always worth checking out who the guests are. I was thrilled to hear that Teena and Kelis were going to be on.

Here’s a little recap of both interviews:

Teena Marie
Teena is performing in NYC today, then in D.C.’s Constitution Hall tomorrow.

Was best friends with Rick for about 3 years before they became romantic. Their relationship was too much like brother and sister.

She’s never done drugs. Watched Rick many times after he hid his drug use from her for several years.

Took Vicodin to help with the pain after hurting her hip. (A painting was falling on her head and she jumped to protect her daughter) She found this also blocked emotional pain and she became dependent on it during the time after Rick’s passing. She weened herself off of it but believes that prescription drugs are as dangerous as recreational drugs. Getting off of the Vicodin was like going through hell. She cried often and this was the first time that she thought about retiring. Because of the prescription she was unable to cry or really feel for a long time.

Before everything happened she thought life was great. Afterward she didn’t know who she was.

Her lowest financial point was in 1994 where she had to sell a few guitars to have money for her children.

She expects to have at least 2 more albums on Cash Money.

Says that because she’s so creative and her mind is always working she has suffered from insomnia all her life.

She wrote a song on the Whispers current album called, Butter. Enjoys cooking and archery.

50 year old, never had plastic surgery. She’s 5 foot 1. Weighs 115 pounds. Her heaviest was 130 when she was pregnant.

Was wearing rosary beads as she had gone to church earlier in the day to pray for Aaliyah’s mother (as today is the 5th anniversary of her passing) and her own family.

When asked if she was happy, she said she’s happy but it sounded a little shaky. The last few years sounded like it really took a lot out of her. She sounds like a serious woman, artist and spirit.


Kelis
This is her 2nd visit to the station—the first time was when Bossy first dropped.

Kelis who just celebrated her 27th birthday on Monday, had turquoise nails and a fabulous Marc Jacobs handbag. She received a droptop Lexus for her birthday. Nas has a Maybach.

She’s usually unhappy with her label that’s natural. The music business is an oxymoron and it’s always combative. No, she has not dined with Jay-Z and Beyonce despite rumors.

While discussing incompetent assistants she said they had an assistant that stole Nas’s sneakers and jeans but would where them around the house!

Wendy said even though Kelis is from Harlem, USA she has a European feel—London in particular but she’s a citizen of the world.

She has a seven year old tattoo around her wrist that says God’s Musical Messenger in Latin.

In reference to anyone who thinks Ring the Alarm is a bootlegged veersion of Caught Out There which was brought up Wendy and her sidekick, Kelis just laughed and said I’m the first girl to scream on track.

As for Nas, he’s an artist and his album will be out when he’s done. He’s taking his time with it and happy with Def Jam at the moment.

For those that follow the rap game closely when asked what she thought about DipSet she said they’re irrelevant to her.

As always, she sounded very laid back, friendly and cool.

I heard the Kelis interview. Supposedly Kelis is actually around 31 years old. If that's the case 27 must be her industry age.

Wendy also mentioned that Kelis left home at age 13. I wonder why.

well according to filmbug: At age 13 she left home because her parents couldn't handle her anymore. She did still go to school, were she formed the R&B trio BLU (Black Ladies United).
