I just thought of one more, it's a live track though, but anyway:
The slowed-down Housequake jam, ending the Paris 2002 Aftershow has to be one of the funkiest Prince moments ever. I mean, it's not a hard jam or anything, but you know, in this slow, chickengrease, nasty, stanky kinda way it's absolutely funktastic. Like Prince said: "I can smell THAT!" The slow groove, the crazy horns towards then end, his vocals... That is why Prince (still) is I hope y'all know this one?

I do indeed appreciate James Brown and understand his contribution to funk and music in general, I just like some other artists better . As Hardcore Jollies stated, Funk is subjective. We've had this very topic on here SEVERAL times and all the choices are damn near always the same. I myself have posted on here numerous times that "More Bounce" could be the funkiest song EVER RECORDED. Please, check the key word "COULD". But, that's subjective. Is "Dookie Stick" less valid than "P-Funk Wants To Get Funked Up"? Again, it all depends on your personal take on what is "funk". So many things are funky. And it doesn't have to be just mid-tempo jams. Many ballads are wicked funky. Just ask Bootsy. Can anyone say "I'D Rather Be With You", & "Munchies For Your Love"? If ya'll are hip to early Black Sabbath, "Sweet Leaf" is damn funky to me. "Back in Black " by AC/DC is funky. Just like Funkadelic's "Super Stupid". As much of a ROCK song that truly is, it's still hella funky. Just like MANY Hendrix's material is funky. "Little Miss Lover", "Spanish Castle Magic", "Foxey Lady", etc. It's a given that James, Sly, Graham Central Station, Parliament, Bootsy, Zapp, etc. are AUTOMATIC. Hell, if you listened to black radio during the 70's, damn near everything that got played was funky. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

My list would look close to the same as everyone else. You're right. However, I like my funk with synths! [Edited 8/25/06 19:57pm]
