Love Em!!!!! Sometimes I prefer the studio, but often you get a feel live that you just can't replicate in the studio... ... [Edited 8/22/06 13:28pm] " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

I actually prefer them sometimes for just the reason you mentioned, it's like a best-of. Some bands like Blues Traveler turn some of their songs into long ass rambling jams and that has it's place too. The coolest artists incorporate the groove of the song into a cover or melt into another one of their songs. Even cooler artists never play the song the same way twice so every live recording is like an original (Aretha - Live at the Fillmore).

Isn't this the concert where she totally crossed over to a counterculture audience right after her landmarks at Atlantic Records were released? Check me out and add me on:

For the most part I like them. There have only been a couple that disappointed me. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

Yes, that's the one. Ray Charles shows up at the end with King Curtis on sax. When I first heard the album on vinyl it really got to me. Just pure soul with whatever she sings.

how do you feel about live cds? Actually, what's kind of werid about some live CDs I've seen is that they aren't like greatest hits (but I guess it depends, though). Sometimes live albums can be great. It's nice to hear how some songs sound performed live. This always sticks in my mind....Sarah McCauglin released one not to long ago and a crtic said it was kind of pointless because the live verisons didn't sound very different from the studio verisons. Then again, when live verisons sound too different, it's not cool, either. But for the most part, I like live albums.
