Disco is pretty much universally trashed by critics but I must say I find way more basslines, and crafty horn arrangements in disco from the 70's than I do in bad 80's crap.

For instance - I would rank the Pointer Sisters "Neutron Dance", and stuff like that as the worst ever.

Disco was the absolute best. It was my first love and it influenced absolutely everything I listened to my entire life.

It was because of disco that I got into funk. Disco itself was very funky. It took funk, got rid of the jazz, sped up the tempo, and made it more danceable. Disco was univeral and crossed all racial lines. When it "died" in 1979, rock and new wave (which sounded nothing like disco) was taking over pop radio. I started exploring R&B radio and the funk in 1980 was very disco-like. I converted over to R&B radio completely and, until 1985, funk continued to be uptempo, funky, fun, and danceable.

When Shitney came on the scene and opened the doors for the dead asses, I got into house music which was nothing more than disco reincarnated. Even the rap of the 1980s was fast paced and danceable, just like disco was.

It wasn't until house music went underground and rap took over that I got completely disgusted with music as a whole. By this time, rap was totally different than before. There was nothing disco-like about the rap of the 1990s. Rap songs stripped off most of the music and slowed the tempo way down. It wasn't until then, that disco really died because all the music before then had that disco tempo and danceable energy even if it wasn't officially known as "disco". When all the disco influence was finally gone, that's when I really started bitching and will continue to bitch.
