When and why did "ugly" music artists disappear from the airwaves? I blame MTV, August 1, 1981 when they started to broadcast, that was probably the decline of "unattractive" performers. Despite excellent vocal abilities, image seems to be everything. If Beyonce didn't look the way she was, she'd probably be that fat girl in the bar that takes kareoke a little to seriously. We are being deprived of amazing singers simply because they don't look that part Wer ist dort? Unterbrechende Kuh. Unterbrech... Muh!!!

Janis was one of the best singers ever. She was sooooo energetic in concert (Even if it was drug fueled) She gave 150% in her performances. Sadly no one would sign her in todays industry because.... Well I hate to be mean but let's just say she was'nt the most attractive woman around. This industry has got to change man. And soon.

It's a double standard dudes can get away with looking average or just plain busted. But women need to have a look. Don't really see the problem with this by the way. "What kind of fuck ending is that?"

Good points though, if your going to be a rapper you need to look like a broke down gangsta, no one would take a clean cut suit wearing rapper seriously, Britney, Beyonce yada yada, they all try to look the part.
Things have changed *********************************************

This thread's premise is interesting. Beauty still is in the eye of the beholder.
This beholder isn't moved by Madonna, Paris Hilton, Alicia Keys or Fergie -- and they all have contracts. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for industry love for such beauties as Lalah Hathaway, Meshell Ndegeocello and Oleta Adams -- who all are as fine as can be.

I was watching Meshell clips on Youtube the other day for hours. She has that huge, undefinable sex appeal that brings me to my knees. The Normal Whores Club

How do U not see a problem with this? There aren't any real singers anymore... THAT's a problem. The males have actually gotten uglier in the last 7-10 years. and yeah, true... the females are generally average, but dolled up. The lack of talent is based on the system of things... like, record label economics, 21st Century Style. "He's a musician's musician..."

U know, I was very close 2 the new, Nelson Mandela appointed, South African ambassador and his family. Man, they LOVE Jonathan Butler in South Africa! (he is South African) I had his double album with the classic "Lies" on it. Blues Alley was a cool spot. Slightly pretentious, big money, but cool, nonetheless.
