When it comes down to RHCP there is one proven, unquestionable FACT : You can never go wrong with Blood Sugar Sex Magik" If you wanna get one album, make sure this is the one. Warning: Chances are you'll want more. This is RHCP at their absolute peak, every single second is pure energy...

Now if you like their poppy side, i.e. songs like Breaking the Girl, Under the Bridge and I could have lied, I suggest that you get By The Way, which is as perfect as Blood Sugar , with more emphasis on melody and atmosphere rather than funk.

If you can't get enough pf funky tracks like If You have To Ask or Sir Psycho Sexy, the next album to buy is Mother's Milk, which has RHCP's best album cover and funk rock at its best. Tracks like Knock me Down and Pretty Little Ditty are precursors to future RHCP ballads.

The next best album, no matter what your preferences are, should be Californication This is the album I started with when it came out. Many great tracks on this one, but some filler as well, not as consistent as those mentioned above...

If you got as far as this you may as well get all the other RHCP albums, because by now you're a fan! music

You missed Stadium Arcadium. It's a great album. I think in a few years time, people will look back on SA and place it either equal to or higher that Blood Sugar. It's a mad ass album. Definately their best work, w/o a doubt. Their songwriting, their musicianship, their production has gotten 1000x better since BSSM and it really shows on SA.

I don't really get Stadium Arcadium. I do like some of the songs but I hardly ever listen to it. Say what you will about production, but the songwriting sounds a bit too forced to my ears, it just doesn't have IT. I think of SA as By The Way watered down.

I guess it's just difference of taste then, because I see SA as a BTW perfected. It seems like on SA they perfected what they were trying to do with BTW (which was almagmate all their musical styles of the last 23 years).

You know what's funny. I have "Staduim Arcaduim" and couldn't listen to it all the way through. I bought "By The Way", never listened to it all the way through...I'm not even sure where it is...maybe someone borrowed it.

I agree.

The main issue I have with it is Kiedis' lyrics. He really needs a new trick... enough of this... "She was from LA, I'm in Mississippi, now I'm California" shit..

His lyrics used to have a lot more meaning.

Some of the music is still very good, though.

There are plenty of songs on SA that have lyrics with quite a bit of meaning. "We Believe", "Wet Sand", "Hard To Concentrate" and "Death of a Martian" all spring to mind. Keidis has always gone from the silly to the sublime with his lyrics.

His lyrics are okay & so are his melodies, and his spirit is integral to the band's identity.

But he can't seem to pull off these long albums. The vocals are the first thing that gets old on nearly all their records.

I thought his vocals, lyrics and melodies were top notch on Stadium Arcadium.

Also, may I just add, Wet Sand is the best song I've heard in a very long time. It's a new old favourite of mine. There are alot of songs on SA that I was just blown away when I listen to them. Hard To Concentrate is anyohter one, just beautiful. I heard he wrote it for Flea's wedding. If so, what a perfect wedding song.

Dave Navarro and Chili Peppers just didn't go together. Bad move by the chili's. Well, atleast when Frusciante came back he came back better than ever and made up for the damage Navarro did.

I agree. If Blood Sugar Sex Magik is their Purple Rain, the Mother's Milk is their 1999.
