Mike Patton singin archaic language on new Zorn Project

Can you say "There he goes again" lol Two times! lol

These two sound interesting. But doesn't everything on Zorn's label?
I wonder if Demons will possess me if I listen to this in the dark?
Alchemy & Magic.. hmmm these guys arent afraid of nada. You know, the thing about Zorn's label that you could become destitute and criminally insane, were you to collect everything on his TZADIK label eek I wouldn't reccomend that.

John Zorn : Moonchild

Cat. # 7357
Released May 2006
US Price $15.00

Zorn’s newest project is a hardcore song cycle scored for voice, bass and drums. This powerful rock unit features three of his most illustrious, longtime cohorts who have worked together in bands such as Naked City, Fantomas, Mr. Bungle and Electric Masada and are keenly in tune with Zorn’s language and aesthetic. Musicians are always at their best in Zorn projects and Moonchild is no exception. You have never heard these players as up front, on the edge or as inspired as they are here, raging through eleven pieces of terrifying intensity. Drawing on preverbal language and the primal power of rock music, this is Torture Garden with an alchemical twist—spontaneous, complex and evocative. Eleven new Zorn compositions executed with a ritualistic passion that will take your breath away.

Here's one scheduled for 07:

John Zorn: Astronome [#7359]
Zorn continues his intense new rock direction with a second release by the dynamic all star trio from his acclaimed song suite Moonchild to present an intense and mysterious tale of magic and alchemy. Featuring the mad vocal wizardry of Mike Patton singing in preverbal language accompanied by long time cohort Trevor Dunn on electric bass and Joey Baron on drums, this is Zorn at his edgy and uncompromising best. An opera of unbridled madness and complexity that will make your jaw drop. Recorded and mixed by the radical posse of musical terrorist Bill Laswell

Here's how you can order Moonchild w/shipping included:

i love mike patton for the projects he takes on, but they always wind up sounding the same. even on the bjork album, i was kinda like, "well, there's mike patton, doing that thing he does."

but he's very good at it, don't get me wrong.

I have respect for John Zorn, but his catalogue is similar to Bill Laswell's, in that they've both done so much stuff, much of which seems cool - but there's so much of it (and so little genuine information to be found as to the nature/ quality of it), that you're not sure what to get.

There really should be books - complete guides to the works of John Zorn and Bill Laswell, plus background, interviews etc. That would be too cool!

It's funny you say that about Laswell. There's an amazing book in the works about Bill Laswell and his life in music. He discovered Whitney Houston. Whitney's first record was a downtown NYC avant ensemble with "Material" It's a hilarious footnote. Laswell even said she didn't have a permit to be in the studio! lol Freaking Bill Laswell worked with Whitney before Clive even knew her name

You know the amazing thing about Zorn is his energy for other artists not justhis music He has over "50 releases" of just japanese acts.

He doesn't have promo's and the label doesn't make a cent. It's a anomaly in today's society. He's probably the onely guy who can fly to Japan and go to an act on Sony and say "I can't pay u but I love what you do and I want to put out a record on my label" And that act will say yes and within the space of less than a year "Tada there it is"

TZadik is such a headfuck. I advise you to just go to the site and look at the index of artists.

And try to wrap your head around this: It's only been a decade and he only has 3 employees working for him. And then look at their release schedule....
And someone try to tell me that this label isnt legendary.....for their range of artists. They got everyone from Lunatics to troubadours to derelicts to shamans to ambient scuplpturists.

I have close to a dozen releases of Tzadik. And you just cant beat this label for challenging uncompromising stuff.

Zorn is like taunting listeners and record collectors like, " You don't like this release? Fuck you I have over 500 selections in 10 years. Find something you do like"

Like I said, his New Japan Series is insane /groundbreaking and unprecedented. I dare anyone to guffaw at it . You just can't. Zorn puts his money where his mouth is. When he says he loves Japan he doesn't just say it he proves it.

I got a reccomendation for you,Miles "Ayuo Red Moon"
Buy this directly at the label center. This artist alone you will be taken back by this guys direction, Progressive rock/art rock/japanese folk/classical/avant garde/japanese pop/ Beautiful magical surreal stuff.

When Zorn started the New Japan series a few years ago I thought he would just do you know, the usual skim over. I have a long way to go to even get a quarter of this series alone. But it's so worth it.

He is one of the ultimate CEO's of his own Destiny. And the killer thing is, you don't even have to enjoy Zorn's work to appreciate his otherworldly ear for discovering sacred jewels of the world.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Laswell and Zorn stuff, Trickology.

As far as Zorn is concerned, I currently have only 'Naked City' (which is brilliantly played, hilariously diverse, and ingeniously sequenced) and 'Electric Masada', which I've yet to properly listen to, so it's good to get more info on such an interesting and open-minded artist/ label. He must sincerely love the music he makes and releases.

It's amazing that he produces so much stuff on his label with only three employees and on a shoe-string budget. Ain't no justice that creative people like him are in semi-obscurity (to the mainstream at least). But as Zappa famously quoted from Varese - 'The present-day composer refuses to die'.

I have something for you to read. It basically gives you a summary of John Zorn. He says a profound comment about art mentioning that police will outlaw what he is doing via his label in the future. He also talks about how N.Y. was gutted by the artists because they couldn't make a living and what happened to them.

Zorn even has a club which he opened called "The Stone" and if you look at the bookings it's just nonstop of acts every month just like his label.

That's why you dont see alot of TZADIK projects being reviewed because Reviews just take promos usually. I hate to say it but it's seen as a job rather than a passion for alot of these reviewers. No matter how amazing you are. Which really is kind of messed up that we have gotten to this level.

There's also a weird documentary about stories of John Zorn. It's called 13 stories about Zorn. It's non linear. There is no plot or anything. It's just 13 people talking about Zorn. Haven't seen that.

Anyways here's that interview that Zorn rarely does.
Zorn exists because of circumstance and luck. Where he lives currently if he got that building today it would cost a fortune. Overhead is everything in starting a movement these days. I don't think people rarely consider all factors in being a artist these days in a major city.
