I love a lot of those Bacharach/David songs, but I can't agree with that. They're not on the level of, say, HDH in my book. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I love a lot of those Bacharach/David songs, but I can't agree with that. They're not on the level of, say, HDH in my book. Different strokes. I find both songwriting teams magnificent in their own ways. The slow, sweeping drama of, say, "Anyone Who Had A Heart" and the immediacy, melody, and exuberance of, say, "Reach Out (I'll Be There)" (by the Four Tops) strike a chord with me on an equal level.

You picked my favorite HDH song. As far as Miss Ross goes, she's not a favorite of mine, but I have to begrudgingly respect her drive and determination to be a star. That's how it is for me, too. I admire Diana Ross' ambition, success, influence, and a freaking CLASSIC album like her 1970 eponymous solo debut, but her nasty/bitchy side has been documented time and time again, and yet all her hardcore fans can do is ignore it (or put it in some kind of less harmful light) and call the detractors and Mary Wilson "jealous haters".

I know what you mean! I used to think this very thing as a kid watching Solid Gold. She used to really irritate me. Kind of like how Denny Terrio used to ruin the end of dance routines on Dance Fever. Of course, as a young kid, this was all I knew of Dionne Warwick. I didn't know she had a career before Solid Gold. I like some of her stuff now though. The Bacharach tunes to be more specific. A snotty bitch? Funny, she never gave me that impression. To the contrary,I always saw her as a nice, sweet lady who always had a HUGE smile on her face.During the 'Solid Gold' days, she always looked like she was truly having fun.You can tell she truly enjoys singing and entertaining.

I don't know anything about the 'snooty bitch' stuff but a BIG yay from me.
Her collaborations with Bacharach and David are perfect.

I'll give Dionne a Yay for confronting Marion "Suge" Knight about the irresponsiblities of gangsta rap & Death Row Records.....and lived to tell about it!
But I'll also give Dionne a Nay for being too piss at George Michael for winning R&B album of the year honors at The Soul Train Music Award in 1988. I can't believe she was hating on that man.
