Santana's New Album Called "Shaman" Due In Stores October 15! I can't wait! Read on:
Santana Aims for Another Home Run with Next Album Thu Aug 8, 8:16 PM ET By Gary Graff DETROIT (Reuters) - As Carlos Santana prepares for this fall's release of "Shaman," his highly anticipated follow-up to the 1999 blockbuster "Supernatural," the rock guitar virtuoso says he feels like a baseball slugger in a key game situation. "I feel like (home-run king) Barry Bonds, man," said the 55-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, who co-founded the band that bears his name in the late 1960s in San Francisco. "The bases are loaded; I worked with all these incredible artists and singers and performers and engineers. So it's up to us to walk up to the plate and hit it right." If he does, the Mexican-born musician will make rock 'n' roll lightning strike twice. "Supernatural," which has sold 25 million copies worldwide and won eight Grammy Awards, ended a commercial drought for Santana by teaming him with a variety of contemporary stars, such as Lauryn Hill, Dave Matthews, Wyclef Jean, Everlast and matchbox twenty frontman Rob Thomas, who co-wrote and sang the hit single "Smooth." "Shaman," due in stores on October 15, is similarly populated by guest artists, but Santana is mum when asked for specifics. "It's not even letting a little kitty out of the bag," he said in a recent interview. "It's a big ol' cat." SHAMANISTIC COMMUNITY He does, however, note that members of the band Ozomatli played on the album, while opera tenor Placido Domingo also makes an appearance. Members of the San Diego hard rock band P.O.D. have revealed they recorded a track called "America" with Santana. And Rob Thomas previously said he wrote some of the material on "Shaman," though he did not expect to perform on it. Clive Davis, the former head of Santana's label, Arista, and the architect behind "Supernatural," assisted on "Shaman," along with current Arista chief L.A. Reid. Santana is most excited about the songs, however, and said new tracks such as "Love to the People," "Aye Aye Aye," "Novus," "Fu Fu" and a cover of African singer Angelique Kidjo's "Adouma" have been well-received by European and North American audiences during the group's summer tour. "I have confidence that more than one song will touch you in a place where you say, 'God, Carlos's music makes me feel very grateful and happy and exhilarated to be alive,"' Santana said. "What we're interested in, man, is compassion and healing. ... "I'm not about show business, man. I'm not entertainment. There's nothing wrong with that, but that's not what I do. They sell you a lot of illusion; we offer reality." TAKING IT TO THE PEOPLE Santana also hopes his current U.S. tour -- which kicked off July 31 in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and so far has dates booked into October -- will spread "a positive vibration" among his fans. "It's the opposite of what's happening in America, which is fear and anger," the guitarist said. "It's a very positive thing. We feel very bubbly, very up about life. We have a lot of joy. We have a lot of conviction. We have a lot of clarity, and it's very contagious." He would be happy if that feeling leads fans to buy "Shaman" in the same numbers they bought "Supernatural," but Santana said he feels "no hesitation or fear or nervousness to compete with 'Supernatural."' "I'm 55, man, and I'm still participating -- not competing -- in this arena with Britney Spears and 'N Sync ( news - web sites) and Dave Matthews and Lenny Kravitz," he said. "We're in it, man, and all we want to do is spread a good feeling and inspire people." --- One of our most spiritual musicians 2 grace the Earth, Carlos Santana is a legend, and I love his work! I'll b 1st in line come October 15!!! |

He's never been as much of a power hitter till the last few years, and physically he's never been bigger. The weight combined with age isn't usually indicative of someone who becomes a better hitter during their late 30s. Plus, he's already said publicly that he considers testing an invasion of privacy - of course that's gibberish for I've got something to hide, and I'm against testing. Barry Walks like Ichiro&Still Hits 30 Plus Homers,100 Runs,Hits,RBI's,350 batting Average
No, he's past the 30+ stage. Way past it. Barry is the Real Deal.you don't Walk as a Left-Hand Batter with a Left-Hander Pitching.and then a Team will walk Barry to Pitch to Jeff Kent who is a Right Handed Hitter&a Good Hitter who was MVP 2 Years Back. Now Barry gets the Ultimate Respect.Tony Gwynn spoke out&said Barry should have 6 MVP's already.you can't do what He does just on some Super Gel you gotta have skills.
You're taking this ENTIRELY out of context. I'm not talking about the Bonds of yesteryear in his 20s and early 30s. He wasn't even close to hitting as many home runs as he hit last year previously in his career. Never even hit even 50 home runs. But in his late 30s he's become a better power hitter, while carrying more weight (one of the symptoms of steroids). When older players gain that type of weight it's EXTREMELY rare that they become better hitters (compare a picture of him physically to his early days in SF to today and look at the guy's neck and legs!). Combined with his averseness of steroid testing. That by itself would be enough for me to believe it. If you got nothing to hide you have no problem letting the league test you. And we'll never know for a fact, because by the time they do test he might be either retired, or have enough time to go cold turkey before testing. Baseball AND its players have perpetuated a total FRAUD. All the home run record breakers of the last few years should have their names stricken from the record books - they're all MUCH bigger than they used to be - and it's NOT just because of lifting weights. The latter part of Bonds' career will NEVER be legitimate in my eyes - and he sure as hell can't carry Willie Mays' jock if he's doing what he's doing while on the juice. All signs point to certain players being guilty. I don't buy that he's not juiced TODAY. Don't buy it AT ALL! Sorry for the threadjacking June7th. This will be my last post about Bonds in this thread. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

You know,I was gonna start this same thread! But I was waiting until I had a complete tracklist and more details.Carlos is being very tight-lipped about this CD,but this is what I've managed to find out...
Partial tracklist--- "Lady Bird Blues" with Cee-Lo "Fu Fu" "Novus" "Aye Aye Aye" "One Of These Days" "Manana" "Love To The People" "Adouma" "Victory Is Won" "Ath Of My Head" "Truth Don Die" "Shaman" "America" with P.O.D. Guest Artists (rumored to appear!)--- Nelly Furtado Sting Marc Anthony Bob Dylan Placido Domingo (confirmed) Ozomatli (confirmed) Cee-Lo (confirmed) Other details... ***In a recent issue of Vibe, there was a photo of Carlos with Patti LaBelle and Ja Rule at a post-Grammy party.I'm betting that he asked them to appear on a track! ***The song "Truth Don Die" is really spelled that way.Carlos has been performing many of these songs in concert. ***Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty (who wrote and sang on "Smooth") has confirmed that he wrote a few songs, but doesn't actually appear on the album. ***Biggest mystery of all: Will MJ and Prince appear on this CD?? BEN AND MATT,
If you are reading this...I think this just reconfirms the orgers need to have a sports forum (per Brother 9/15's thread to you)so we can have interesting, stimulating (LOL)conversation such as the one Supernova and Mistermaxx was just in. NOW BACK TO THE BUSINESS!!! OK June 7. Thanks for the thread. This upcoming Santana release should prove to be interesting.

She can talk about sports and music and not get caught up in the "oooh he's so cute" stuff you usually hear from women. Yea, I said it. test

For the record; in person I think Prince is sexy as hell! But had it not been for his obvious skills I wouldn't have had interest in him for almost 25 years now. There are peaks and valleys of his career, and I had TOTALLY given up on him at one time (when it was obvious he was resting on his laurels artistically). But to me he's proven his mettle once again... If not for the merits of the music there's nothing to hold my attention for too long. Oh, thanks for the compliment. I have all of Santana's CDs and these are the ones I would recommend to you... ***"Borboletta"(1974)---Santana did his best work in the 70s imo,and this album captures him at the peak of his powers.Songs like "One With The Sun" and "Mirage" will stay in your head long after the CD finishes playing. ***"Festival"(1977)---Like it's title suggests, this CD is alot of fun! At this point,Carlos was into R&B and this album is an eclectic mix of cool Latin rhythms and funky soul workouts.A classic!! ***"Zebop!"(1980)---Carlos entered the 80s decade with this strong, consistent album.Best track? The mesmerizing "Searching" which, amazingly, was never released as a single. ***"Milagro"(1992)---Likewise,Carlos entered the 90s decade with another kickass CD.This is his most satisfying work in years. ***"Sacred Fire"(1993)---A take-no-prisoners live album where Carlos' guitar-playing takes center stage.Highly explosive!!

Uh...is that a yea or nay? Here are a few more details about the CD... ***The song "Victory Is Won" is actually an outtake from the unreleased 1996 project called 'Serpents & Doves'.Carlos simply re-worked the tune and it is likely to appear on the new album. ***It's very likely that Aretha Franklin appears on this CD,as well. After all,she has to return the favor. In 1985,Carlos played guitar on HER album 'Who's Zoomin Who' (he appears on the song called "Push"). ***The song "America" may NOT appear on the album after all.It seems that the folks at Arista feel that this song is "too heavy" for an album that is otherwise pop.WTF??
