Politically correct? I'm afraid you're guilty of using that term not only as a weird sort of insult but completely out of context. WTF? I think they simply mean it would be unusual for the hosts of the show not to pretend the artist who just performed did a good job - how often do you see a host tell someone they sucked? The hosts overcompensated for an embarrassing performance - it was polite but completely dishonest. I believe that's what houtex meant...

You know you're in bad shape when the dj is basically begging you (and your background) to PROJECT already... I know we're preaching to the choir here but it still feels good don't it? Anyhoo, another aspect of this whole thing is the fact that there has been a general dumbing down in society and pop culture for several years now. We have to realize that us old skoolers and "snobs" as someone above put it, are no longer the target audience. One reason being that we know what time it is. Another reason is because these moguls are after younger, more vulnerable minds who have more disposable income. They'll buy whatever shallow image or message is being sold to them because they don't know any better. The suits are fully aware that out time, money and attention is tied up in things like work, bills, raising families and other issues. They also know that we're more discerning, which makes us much harder fish to hook for a businessman whose only concern is the bottom line. Compare Prince to NeYo. Who's going to demand more artistic freedom and a bigger piece of the $$ pie? Look at their respective demographics. A guy who's nearly 50 with a loyal fanbase, but with a few exceptions, the majority of our resources are committed elsewhere. NeYo, on the other hand is a disposable talent for his peers with more disposable income, Both can be replaced in a few years time by the next big thing. It's a profitable formula for the suits. So who you think is gonna get the airtime? These people don't care one wit who's more talented and haven't for a long time. It's all about who's more gullible at this stage of the game, because artists who are older and wiser cut too much into their profits. So unless we find an effective way to educate younger consumers the downward spiral will continue because in this youth oriented market they don't give a crap what older consumers or artists think. They'll continue to appease us by giving out the occasional lifetime achievement award and that'll be the end of it. Personally, I take my sons, their friends, my young co-workers and anybody else who will stand still long enough and drag their asses to old skool shows. I buy them cds and whatnot also. Anytime I hear them touting some song that shamelessly samples the original artist, I make damn sure I bring the original recording to their attention. They think I'm cool. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

HELL YEAH! When I majored in art design in college, I had to study the old masters. Today's so-called "singers" need to do the same thing.

The industry is all about making money rather then making good music. No one is really being allowed to be creative anymore. Think what you want about the boybands and girlgroups of the late 90's, but here's something can be said for them: Damn few ever lipsynched and though none of the acts could have been accused of having extreme talent, most at least had decent voices and could carry a tune. They also knew how to handle themselves in front of a camera or in an interview and not come across as middle school talent show rejects. That can't be said for a lot of the hot young acts out right now. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
