Moutain was huge in the early 70s...

...And Leslie West was literally which is why he's hidden in the 1st pic.
(Felix Pappalardi on bass, Corky Laing on drums, Steve Knight on keyboards)

At the time, Leslie West had one of the best guitar sounds in Rock...

...The Les Paul Jr/Marshall combo produced a deadly lead sound.

Leslie (Weinstein) started playing around NYC with group called...

...The Vagrants.

Cuts some singles on the ATCO label...

...One of which was a cover of Respect engineered by Tom Dowd. (I have/had that single somewhere)

Essential Mountain...

...Climbing! & Nantucket Sleighride

Just my opinion but Never In My Life outrocks Mississippi Queen cool

I love it to death. I used to have a Mountain 'best-of' on a rickety cassette back in my high school days. I think I'll go shopping for a replacement this weekend.

One of the heaviest riffs ever! Leslie West is a fave of Howard Stern - he was a frequent guest on Stern's old K-Rock radio show and he would play some great live guitar for Howard.

Last I heard, he participates in those "summer rock camps" for rich folks with money to burn. I know a few people who attended and those things aren't cheap.

Great song and great tone. Leslie West is one of those guys like Jeff Beck or B.B. King. He could play 2 or 3 notes and make it sound amazing. Jimi Hendrix really dug him.
