Marcus Miller Live Long Beach Last Night 8/18

Marcus Miller THREW DOWN last night at The Vault in Long Beach. I went the second show. He had Patches Stewart on trumpet, Puji Bell on drums, this sick kid from Switzerland on harmonica, I cannot remember everyone else's names...the keyboard and alto sax player were from Dallas...Lalah Hathaway came up and did "Killing Me Softly"...my old man is a huge Marcus Miller fan, he always takes me to see him when he comes to town...this show I enjoyed by far more than previous ones...dude is just a GENIUS on the bass. I know now that Miles must have wet his pants the first time he saw him play. Marcus was what, like 20, when he played in Miles band? Last night he played the hell out of the alto horn and the bass clarinet as well as the bass - I realized that he played the horn and bass clarinet on "Rush Over" the track he did with Me'Shell. Just an incredible display of musicianship. Marcus is truly a legend - if you aren't familiar with him as an artist than you probably are familiar with him as he is the cat playing bass on much of Luther Vandross' best work, much of which he produced as well.
