lol

[Flame snip - luv4u]

Lets all get together in this thread and sniff each others asses. We all were magically came of age at the same time, went to same high school proms, we're all American, Rolling Stone readers who love dinosaur rock bands and old as shit funk bands and we have the best music taste that ever existed on the face of the planet. Everything about our generation was perfect and everyone elses generation and musical tastes are trash.

Do I get my gold stars and cookies now?

but this is the prince board. since prince is a genius we have to (strike that) MUST include the 80s. it had madonna, debbie gibson, the jets, all those legendary classic genre redefining acts. musical youth, the fat boys, ahh, it was the most revolutionary time ever. rick dees' disco duck. hooray for the best period of recorded music ever!

Michael Jackson
Madonna
Janet Jackson
The Human League
Heaven 17
DEVO
Culture Club
Motley Crue
Guns N Roses
RUN DMC
LL Cool J
Expose
The Time
Shelia E.
Roger/Zapp
Rick James
Cameo
.....and that's only the beginning with a quick list of artists.

Now comes the list of genres:

New Wave
Synthpop
Electro/Electrofunk
House (Chicago)
Techno (Detriot)
Bass music (Miami, Orlando, & Atlanta)
Heavy Metal going Pop-Metal/Hair Metal
(Latin) Freestyle
Hip-Hop/Rap

The 70's is the best decade ever in music. But the 80's were very original too. And they use keyboard synths & drum machines.

Look,if you want to convince yourself that today's music is fantastic,by all means,do so.Go enjoy your R.Kelly and 50 Cent CDs! Have fun! But keep in mind that,on this site, there are many of us who grew up in a musically rich period. We were there when Stevie Wonder was in his prime. We were there when Motown was the top R&B label. We were there when R&B music consisted of alot more than samples and midtempo programmed beats. When you have grown up with superb, mindblowing music,it's hard to accept the crap that pollutes the airwaves these days.

Seems unnecessarily vitriolic. Opinions differ.

Personally, I think the 1880’s was a damn fine decade, musically. Although I rather liked the 1980’s too.

Sadly, somebody buggered off with all the gold stars to decorate their ceiling, and we call them biscuits, not cookies, and there’s none left – I just ate the last one.

I won't go so far as saying there is no good music today but to act like the quality of music over all hasn't fallen off is just wrong. You can't say people saying it has are just like those that said this back in the lates 70s. There are some major differences in the music industry today that weren't there 30 years ago.

The visualization of music through videos. Everyone knows this changed the way acts were signed. It became more important to look good than to sing good. This opened the door to the full on commercialization of music. Of course music was commercial in the 70s too but marketing wasn't the beast it is today. Outside of payola (which was less than 5% of what got played) acts got radio play because they had a good record. Radio was much more diverse because of this. In turn, we were exposed to stuff these music services today wouldn't touch. And don't even get me started on sampling and how technology eroded musicianship.

I'm sorry if you think talk like this is nothing more than "old people" bitching about kids today. If only it was that simple.

It was the last time people actually were musicians who did concerts with instruments. Seems like those same people are still touring and making money too hmmm

I think AquafineDream is* all about baiting and I am not for a moment jumping to it's defence, but there are, thankfully, plenty of 90's and 00's musicians who do concerts with instruments.

I am 19. The music my generation makes, sucks major fucking balls. The best music was made in the 70s. Period.

AquafineDream. How 'bout gettin' the f out of here? All you do is create stupid-ass threads one after the other, and no one really gives a rat's ass about them in any case. I'm sure you have something better to do with your time (at least you should have...) than hanging around here whining all the time. Why the hell do you give a shit if people dig the 70s or 80s music more than the crap 'artists' put out these days? Why anyone else's musical taste should in any way be your personal concern, is beyond my comprehension. Go listen to whatever it is that you listen to, be it 50 Cent or Medieval choir music, I don't give a fuck. But stop whining and bitching about it, and leave us who enjoy 70s and 80s music alone.
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Exactly .
I've been raised with late 70's and mainly 80's , besides some 50's & 60's jazz from my pops and some classic composers ( which bythe way is quite an impressive era too , composing for a complete orchestra )
In other words , good music = good music , and i've heard in every era material which was quality or crap ( imo ) .
I'm currently listening too underground urban soul and soulful house which is combined with a jazz-edge . There ARE indeed new sounds within music , but as long as one keeps their ostrage-heads directed to the commercial mainstream which is brought by Clear Channel ( 50ct , R Kelly , etc ) , it's really sad how less new music is given a chance . Ignorance = a bliss .
.
.

Hence , Madonna got her latest inspiration from recent artists ( William Orbit , etc ) .
And she signed 90's artist Meshell Ndegeochello to her Marverick label in 1994 .
Much artists don't work with narrowminded boundaries .
