Without question,'Off The Wall' is Michael Jackson's best album. It's funny, this album was released during the disco era but it doesn't sound the least bit dated to me.The music still sounds fresh and vital.Every song on this album is excellent.Yes,I said every song. It's rare these days to find an album that sounds good all the way through but back then,it was the norm.

My favorite songs:

"Rock With You"
"Working Day and Night"
"Get On The Floor"
"Off The Wall"
"I Can't Help It"
"It's The Falling In Love"

those six songs rival anything on 'Thriller' (with the exception of "Billie Jean").Get this album right now!

So far, "off the wall" is my jam! I love that song. That shit is hot!

I know I will be shot down in the blaze of glory for saying this but Latoya Jackson's 1st self titled cd sounds like a very watered down version of Off the wall. Like she was aiming for the same kind of vibe but missed. There are some funky jams on it though! "If you feel the funk" is the shit!

So tonight gotta leave that nine to five upon the shelf
And just enjoy yourself
Groove, let the madness in the music get to you
Life ain't so bad at all
If you live it off the wall

I am finally thinking of purchasing this cd. I know it's a classic but just never got around to it. After listening to the new Pharrell cd and hearing some old skool Jacko influences I thought I should probably just get the original. Is it essentially a disco album? Is this Jacko's best work?
It's his funkiest album. More so the Thriller.

Hey dancerella,
There is one song on the Off The Wall album that SUUUUUCKKS really, really, really bad. It's the duet he did with Paul McCartney called "The Girl Is Mine" Skip it when you get to that song. It's some of Michael worst material ever.

I was thinking the same thing, I thought it was on Thriller but do you seriously think it's that bad? By the way, what do you guys think of the picture with him and sir McCartney washing dishes together? It's hilarious!

TGIM is not a good song, and was a terrible choice for a first single. MJ was just copying Stevie and chasing after the White fan base who bought into the equally horrible "Ebony and Ivory".

When it comes to Thriller I always skip everything one Side One except "Wanna Be..."

which pic is this? I only remember the one where he and McCartney are pulling on the girls arms. He has some pretty decent drawing skills.

JaneyPoos used to be it... then they changed what it was. Now what I am isn't it and what is it is strange and frightening to me...

I know what you mean, it`s MUCH, MUCH more poporiented, with songs like "Black or white" and "Heal the world", the material seems to be just a part of his cartoon-like image...
I love the songs though, "Will you be there" is beautiful....

Hey, soul ain't for everyone, just certain folks shrug That's why MJ sold his.

I love soul. In fact if an artist doesn't have soul (which is more than just a genre of music), I more than likely will never dig them. But the fact that Off The Wall is a more "soulful" album than Bad doesn't make it a better album. Not in my mind anyway.

I've never really been a fan of "Dangerous" either. Black and White, Heal the World, Jam etc just sound very bland. I do like "Remember the Time" and "Will you be there"(even though it's more the disney side). But all and all I am not quite sure which album is blander ; "Dangerous" or "Bad."

I kinda know what u mean, but from a risk standpoint, "Dangerous" was a better sounding example of him taking a musical risk. The songs on the album were edgy and soulful. "Remember the time", was one of the best things that I had heard from MJ since, "Rock with you". The only thing that was wrong with that CD was the filler material. It was like, he started to have fun and then said, "Oh shit....I can't do that, what about the children"....then he added "Will you be there", (which is not a bad song, but it just did not need to be there) and "Heal the world". It was a better album than "Bad". That album, while it had it's moments was just too "popish" for my taste.

Agreed! To be honest,I think MJ's music went downhill after 'Thriller'.Sure, there were a few great singles here and there ("Man In The Mirror","Another Part Of Me",etc.) but I think he lost something after 'Thriller'...or maybe it was just impossible to top an album like that?

lol I think that sums up how MJ probably has approach his albums since Thriller..."Oh what about the children.." "What about the European/Asian Market .shit..I think I'm sounding a little too soulful...let's water down the sound a little, we don't wanna sound too black..."

You can practically hear just listening to albums from Bad onwards the calculation that has gone into those albums.

And it's not even about him singing about children and the Earth that is the problem, afterall on Marvin Gaye's "Whats going On" he too sings about the Earth "Mercy, Mercy me" and children "Save The Children"..it's the way he sings them, it's almost like his whining and the songs like "Heal the World" and "Earth Song" are better suited to some disney B film, than an album that is suppose to be a master piece.

I just don`t hear the soul, it`s not just the song, it`s his voice too. I think they are brilliant POPSONGS, but that`s it... I realize i may be the only M.J fan to say this, but i can`t stand "Remember the time", never liked it confused

I guess his thinking is this, "My own family will not stand behind me, nor will some of my own people. Since this is the case, let me go and entertain those people who have accepted me all along. These are the same people who themselves are not accepted by people for one reason or another. I am not saying that this is true, but it is probably his thinking.
