FUNK ALERT! WAX POETICS #18 PFUNK issue Wax Poetics Issue 18, August/September 2006
Parliament-Funkadelic can hardly be summed up in a few sentences. Wax Poetics digs deep to trace the sprawling history of this supergroup, from its doo-wop roots to its freaked-out, drug-laden rock sessions, and finally onto the best-known (and best-selling) period of space boogie. Purchase at: Turntable Lab, Dusty Groove, Fat Beats Featured Articles: Calvin Simon, Grady Thomas, and Fuzzy Haskins of the Parliaments "With Funkadelic, we were the same five singers, but instead of being smooth and silky like the Parliaments, we came with the hard acid-rock guitars." —Calvin Simon Bernie Worrell "Sometimes we was just vamping for days and days. It would get a little tiring, but people loved it 'cause there was so much to look at. That's when George was stripping, and crazy hairdos and acid: Funkadelic." Bootsy Collins "With Bootsy's Rubber Band, I tried to attract a younger audience than Funkadelic had. I would take words like "funk" and expressions like "I got the munchies for your love" and challenge kids to use their imaginations." http://waxpoetics.com/issues/issue_18/ BTW I copped mine at BORDERS test

The P-Funk section is one cool thing, but did you check the article on Ed Motta and the pics of his super-sick LP collection?...
... He picked out 10 LPs and of course i'm gonna transcribe his comments on this one... Aja Steely Dan (ABC Records) 1977 When I work in other studios than my own, or a place that I don't know the control-room sound exactly, I must listen to Aja several times. It's my favorite record out of my entire collection. It might sound like an ovbious choice, but the album has given me inspiration in a very personal way. For me, Steely Dan is the most perfect thing I ever heard in my life-it is a religion! The sound quality, solos, and musicians are flawless on this record-they had reached their high point. They used to take more than a week to mix one track, so it's expensive to be influenced by their studio habits! I'm living in these days of laptops and lack of money, but I love the exaggerated way of life from that era: "Please, send me another grand piano-this one's no good!" I'm a fan and I have a very emotional response to any of their work, including Donald Fagen's solo albums. I collect jazz, studied harmony, and learnt the piano because of Steely Dan. Of course he gets to hang with... ...Tania Maria tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Thanks for the heads up. P-Funk articles that are in depth and current are hard to come by these days. I guess I've going to Borders today. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.
