He was in Prince's band up until 1999. Then he left. I think he had a relgious experience and decided to part ways. He's a good guy. Played the solo in Lil'Red Corvette...

When I like a music genre, I don't just love this or that artist. I've gotta have a little bit of everything with some exceptions. So, I am currently listening to Mahalia Jackson's 16 Most Requested Songs. I like the strong fervor in her voice. She's is the Queen as one Orger referred to her.

Most of her songs were rather slow though. Cool. But if I'm feeling down, I want to hear something a little more uptempo

Wow, yesterday evening, I listened to Kim Burrell's Try Me Again album. I am in awe for her voice and her style. I had never before listened to any woman Gospel artist combine jazz and Gospel. The sheer strength of her devotion with which she sings to the Lord has surpassed anything I've heard by Yolanda Adams.
And the day before yesterday, I listened to Shirley Caesar's Grreatest Gospel Hits, and guess what I found? The song some of you Orgers were talking about: the Live version of Hold My Mule! Oh...there's some sweet strength that I feel emanating from Shirley's voice. It brings a smile of pure joy to my face.

Liz McComb. Some people are like Slinkies...
They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Burrell is cool. I was never big on Shirley Caesar though. Too much talking in her songs. You gonna sing or preach? Choose one and stick with it! Seriously, though, I respect the positive influence she's had on so many people...

A-hah, now I know why Shirley Caesar isn't one of brothaluv's favorites. And that's cool with me. To each his own.

Indeed. Liz is exuberant and full of energy. Blues infused Gospel, what a treat! Liz McComb and Benita Washington are on my to-buy-list for sure.
