Mya shifts over to Motown, Christina Milian has last laugh on Universal

Mya's new/amazing album "Liberation" due 11/14 will be on Motown this time around, though Mya is still part of Universal, its her first under Motown. Mya will have two singles/videos out before the album hits the streets. Some tracks have already leaked from the record as far back as last year, but the surprise to some will be that the leaked tracks have gotten cut off the record. Mya will have two singles go to radio at the same time beginning August 21st, and Videos in Mid September. In her personal news, Mya, has moved back home to DC and has been teaching at a performing arts school for inner city kids, during her off time (hmmm how come no one is championing that effort)

In other news, Christina Milian is having the last laugh on her former Label, Defjam/Universal. Milian was dumped by the label about 2 months ago, citing their creative differences with her (basically she wouldnt do what they wanted of her), at the time Uni stopped promoting her latest record and so did Christina. But radio hasnt stopped playing her "Say I" track at all during the summer, and the album has still managed to sell 200,000+ and sales have actually increased since Milian has been everywhere lately promoting a movie. So though the label may still reap the reward of sales from this album, Milian was let out of her deal with pay, and now has a rumoured 7 figure deal in the works with another major, which includes, Music and Publishing rights, i guess Universal couldnt deal with an artist that actually wanted some "rights".

Very true, people can say what they want about Christina Milian's "musical talent" BUT she stuck up for herself and basically got dumped for it by Jay Z and Def Jam. This feud basically stemmed from their attentions to Rihanna, and the lack of $$ being used to promote Christina's record and also changing the street date on Christina and not even telling her! It also should be noted that Christina turned down SOS, rihannas summer hit, because Christina wanted to write for herself.

Mya will never be nothing in the music game. She will never rise above second- or third-tier status.

Why waste compact disc space on her.

Records companies are not interested in talent but only in artists that sell...

It's doesn't matter if they have a good voice or play an instrument...if they sell great!

Christina Milian has proved to be more than a bimbo...she even co-wrote J.Lo a hit!

Christina Milian was nothing to begin with.

I don't know why anyone is making a fuss over her. Her music is shit.

And another thing:

Did anyone fail to notice along with Miss Jones that Christina Milian is under a self-imposed gag order (as part of a unknown out-of-court settlement)?

I dont know why any1 is wasting their time trying to promote her. She'll never be shit. She will always be an imitation or follower of some a-list star.

Wow i see that "units sold" seem to be a gauge on success, honestly Mya has done her best and kept herself at a good level since 1998 when she debuted, and honestly to have 4 albums nows, and still after 8 years to be known in the RB industry, 4 albums is 4 lives in RB today, and 8 years is about 8 lives in RB today, lets be real about that. Also MYA has got the respect and has done alot of charity work for cancer research, and also shes got movies lined up. So she may not be Beyonce in terms of the spotlight but thank god, because unlike Beyonce,Mya has grown as an artist, so Beyonce could use her money to go buy some diversity. Sorry folks gotta defend Mya, at least she is real and doesnt sell out to the game for an easy hit, and she is in charge of her career unlike Beyonce who is a puppet/production of her parents at this point.

The 2 singles staregy just might work. Radio started playing "Unfaithful" the day before Rhiana's album was out. Of course "SOS" became a summer hit but "Unfaithful" was a very different follow up that managed to hit, too. I think it's still selling well as a single and I know that the video gets a lot of play.

Well Mya does have alot going for her as always. Though she may get lumped in with other RB females she is one that to me always seems to take that turn that others dont take. Of course this is the reason that MYA is not the "salling queen" that Beyonce is but Mya is very diversified in her work/writing and also doesnt really care what is thought about her. The new cd will be more of what she was doing with "Moodring" mixes up styles RB/POP but giving this record a little more Rockier Edge than before, and also using a live band on most tracks.

Wow. What a stupid bitch. This silly idiot hung up on Christina Milian because she couldn't find the words in her pea brain to communicate the questions she had in a non-offensive way. I guess Christina learned a hard lesson - don't talk to the press. I guess this chick is trying to be a "shock jock"? "You can't come on this show and think you're going to dictate the direction of the interview" lol I guess interviewers think they are celebrities now?
Its partially Christina's fault, though. If this is the chick that did that Tsunami song, she shouldn't have even granted her ass an interview in the first place.

What's ironic is that back in the day, Miss Jones was an up-and-coming r&b diva-in-training herself. She's done a complete transformation into a wannabe shock jock and it's sooooo fake. It's mean-spirited, and smacks of desperation, to say the least. And the way she treated those DannityKane girls was pathetic.

This is the same Miss Jones that had the CD out back a few years ago? Didn't she have shades on in her music video? Seems like I remember Timbaland having something to do with the song she had out...shrug

WHOA! They really need to fire that Miss Jones bitch. Ok it's one thing if a star comes on the show acting like an asshole, but the host? Appreciate the fact that the celeb decided to take some time to come on the show. I know we can be hard on celebs. But damn, have some ettiqute. Just because she's not giving into the gossip you wanna hear you have to disrespect her? Crossing over into Wendy Williams territory.

Funny, I thought I was missing out on some good radio (shows you hear so much about) by not living in NY.

Mya's problem is she has no true identity and she has no personality. Her music is decent, and better than others that are out, but she lacks that "umph!" to get her over the top. She's the pretty girl from next do' that you'd love to fuck and she's probably gonna make a good wifey someday. wink

She's sexy as all get out and she's got a wonderful ass. Yum. razz

Well i have to disagree on that one, i think the fact that MYA switching things up and shows diversity in her music and songs is her identity. I think other big names in RB, female wise, are big becuase they are safe, they do the same thing all the time, i mean there are a million little RB girls out there now that if you played their song you would be like, thats CIARA, no its CASSIE, no its LETOYA. I think Mya could never be mistaken in that grouping, vocally she may not be a Beyonce, but she has very different sound that sets her aprat from these others, which i guess why she has been around since 97, and is on her 4th album, i doubt were going to get 4 albums out of Letoya. Personality wise, Mya does have it, but she isnt a Media darling, she doesnt kiss ass, and alot of times she says whats on her mind, which is why she doesnt have many Industry friends, the argument i hear alot is that MYA is never gonna achieve superstar stature. Well success is to each a different thing, Mya has movies and done tours, and people like her and has a prety loyal fan base, not everyone can acheive the BEYONCE throne in terms of success, but really how many people would want too since her backlash is beginning.

But that's just it - She's all over the place with her music and that's someone looking for themselves rather than someone confident in switching up their style. See, you can do that if you were Prince - having achieved a high level of respect and success, but you can't if you're Mya because she has done neither.

I loathe Miss Jones. I remember her 2 singles for a hot minute. One I actually liked. Met for a minute and she was just a nasty then as she is now.

When Christina was on Wendy Williams they had a nice long interview and I'm no fan of hers but she seemed to be quite sweet.

As for Mya, she's a triple threat that just doesn't seem threatening. I love her song Falling, though.

Well on the Radio host topic they all seem to wanna be Howard Stern now in a way and stir up some kind of crap. Wendy Williams with her long list of rumours most of them false, Miss Jones and her issues, and now very recently Angie Martinez and Flex twisting an interview with RB newcomer Cassie, they all just seem to be trying to make a name for themselves by stirring some shit up. Angie Martinez is like a bottleg JLO wannabe and Flex honestly the last time i saw this guy he was doing some tv show trying to sell mariah a helicopter, so basically hes hanging by a thread, no one cares about this guy anymore, it would be cool if artists stopped doing their shows so no one would care about them. As for MYA as i have said before she is where she wants to be, still around almost 10 years in, does her thing, if u dig it cool, if u dont ok. But at least Mya has not conformed the way other female artists have lately to be something the public wants them to be

Well i doubt thats how Mya got this far, but hey if she did, thats the game as they say. Mariah did it in 1989-90, Laura Branigan (RIP) did it back in the 80's, so thats the way it goes.

I'm not saying that's how she got where she got. She's talented. She's just spread herself around with the "wrong people" and now she has an industry rep.
