Who believes this? I don't know any brothas who would wait a year to sleep with a woman. Plus, if she did that then she has control issues and needs therapy. Either way, its not a good look on her part.
If it is for the right reasons then I don't fault Alicia for having the 1 year rule. But if it's a control issue? Then I'd tell her what I heard an old man say one time "All It Is, Is A Hole With Some Hair Around It"

Dude, I know that. To me the bitch is repulsive. What I'm saying is you get
a lot of respect for being with a famous woman who is generally regarded as beautiful, talented, succesful, etc. You could have another woman on the side who's better in every way, but it won't give you as much kudos as a celebrity girlfriend. That's what I meant by prestige pussy. But I agree with you, a bitch who's holding out for a year is playing games. But in Alicia's case the game is simple; she doesn't like men but she's got to have a boyfriend to look normal. wink

I am a man...and I am probably a lot older than most of the brothas here. But I have to asked the question....Why is she playing games if what she is giving you belongs to her anyway??? It always happens that way, a pretty and talented woman comes on the scene and just because she is not like the average "video hoe", she must be labeled a lesbien. It's funny, nobody talks about beyonce like this...and she is all up on the screen shaking her booty and keeping her private life more private that Alicia.Listen,it was Alicia's choice to do what she did....it does not imply anything else but what is written. But there are some that just love to read into stuff. I learned something a long time ago as a teen.... In this world, Women have half the money and all the pussy....If more brothers realize this, the world would be a better place.

I agree that holding out in itself isn't necessarily playing games, even though a year seems like an awful long time for a woman in her 20s. I had suspicions about Alicia long before I heard this story, based upon her movement and her speaking voice. It may not be a politically correct thing to say, but gay people often have their own mannerisms and vocal tones. Not always, but often. Whenever I see Alicia performing without the piano it's hard not to notice how butch she is. The fact that her boyfriend is much less atractive than you'd expect and that she uses the term "violated" to describe sex only make what was once a 50/50 guess into something like an 80/20 guess.

Okay, her boyfriend is not a glamour boy...so what? Remember, she was raised in the hood, so it is only natural that she has some tom-boyish qualities about her. I just think that when someone is not out there spreading their business, people always have to jump to conclusions and make these weird observations. Again, Beyonce shakes and girates her ass on stage, but nobody has really said anything negative agianst her.

Because there's simply no logical reason to suspect Beyonce of being gay. Nothing about her would lead me to think she's gay. With Alicia the evidence seems to be mounting all the time.

Evidence? What evidence? She was a tomboy, she has said that many times. Besides, what difference does it make, when all that's important is her voice.

Thank you for that comment! I would never be with man if he felt that I was "obligated" to give him my body. My man and I waited a long time before getting intimate, and it was a mutual decision. We wanted to get to know eachother as friends and human beings first. Obviously, if Alicia's man had a problem with waiting, he would have left her for someone who would have given up a lot quicker. How do we know he did not agree with her point of view? Sure, he probably wanted to sooner, but maybe he felt it was worth the wait also.

One more thing, I must be living under a rock because I've NEVER heard anyone say they thought Alicia was gay before. confused

well they have always been whispers the way there have always been whispers around Queen Latifah- who swears that she's not gay. and of course Missy elliot who just screams "i'm butch!" in every way. of course she denies it too. it's still very unacceptable in the black community to be homosexual so i'm not surprised that none of these women, if they really are gay, wink have come out.

I think the whispers about Queen Latifah really got going after that role she played in the movie "Set It Off". Now that character was as butch as you can get.

Your gaydar, could be very wrong. I would hate to be the new kid in your town. You cannot judge what someone is, simply by the way they look or act. That's the biggest problem amongst our people....We are always trusting our "Gaydar", trying to bring the most successful of us, down.

Dude, get a sense of humour please.

I've already explained the logical reasons why I suspect. Not saying I'm 100% certain, but you don't have to know too much about the ways of the world to recognise tell tale signs when they show up. As for this "trying to bring the most successful of us down" crap I'd simply ask you to refer back to my earlier defence of Beyonce.

Good for her. A year may be a bit long, but if that is how she felt, good fer her. And if you don't know any 'brotha' who would wait over a year for the woman he loves, you hang out with the wrong kind of 'brothas'.

Any woman "making him wait a year" is playing mind games and pulling power plays. If it takes a woman a year to decide whether or not a man is "worthy of her" (egotrip alert). she is not very perceptive or thinks way too much of herself. I'm not hanging out with the wrong brothas. I don't hang out with simps. There are 6.5 billion people on the planet and women outnumber men. A couple of months is understandable. A year is power tripping. I'd say run as far and as fast as you can away from her. I don't believe that "waited a year" crap for one minute, although there are some weak brothas who might do just that. I don't know them and would like to keep it that way.

Well what do you think that says about how you percive women if you see a woman having respect for herself as a power play?

confused Not qutie sure what's so strange about that. That's a good concept and point of view to have. Women should make men wait for sex, hell anyone should wait. If you want a relationship that is truly about getting to know each other and falling in love, you should probably stave off sex for a while because it complicates things. If you're not really looking for a long term relationship then do whatever the hell you want.
But I think Alicia Keys has the right idea. I'm not sure if you should put an exact time limit on it like that, but whatever works for you.
[/quote]

agree very much with purplerighteous1 comment above. If you want to live just for the moment and rush things, the relationship will be short-lived too. The girl is smart...

'She told Contactmusic: "I made him wait a year because my body is too beautiful to be violated by someone who doesn't deserve it."

Deep down, if he didn't care he would've been walked away, but he stood the test of time. And why would you want to waste your time sleeping around with someone doesn't give a fuc__ about you???

It probably wasn't the easiest thing for both, but it'll make the desire and respect for one another much stronger, and not just short-lived. I believe this will make the relationship even more ever lasting.

Only people who truly AND really care about one another can do this. Maybe not for all circumstances, people, and situations, but it might be a good tactic. Good for you if it works.

Besides even if it isn't true, Alicia Keys is an entertainer and in this crazy world and age, it's good that she sets this example for young people to follow and think about how important their bodies are.

Good girl.

WRONG!
Not wanting sex isn't normal or healthy. Miss keys has been opressed and has grown up in a religious, dogmatic society; to add to that she is insecure about her body!

She never said she didn't want sex. In the article she stated that she wanted to be with him physically and that it was hard for both him and her to abstain from sex for the time being. But she decided to think with her brain instead of her body because she wanted ALL of the pleasurable things that can come with sex including knowing that you are with someone who truly loves and cares for you and will stand by your side no matter what and you for them, and who wanted to be with you because of who you are and not what's between her legs.

Not necesarily true for everyone but, when someone calls you a homosexual and you're not and a whole bunch of ppl believe that shit it can be a problem. If u had problems finding somebody to be with before, then just buy a bunch of cats right now because you'll be inside for a while. lol But for real though, it's not so much that they are calling her a lesbian, but that they are making up BS and jumping to ridiculous conclusions and spreading it around. That's how rumors get started and that shit ain't never cool. If a couple of ppl want to say some shit, then whatever, but when hoardes of ppl believe it, it can fuck up your life. Of course, in Alicia's case, it's not even that serious and not that many of her fans or potential fans believe it, plus rumors and shit are par for the course when you're a celebrity.
