My MJ faves are ones from his early days.. "With a childs heart" "call on me" "If I dont love you this way" (lOOOVE THIS SONG, CHILE, WHEW!) "When I come of age" "Music and Me" and there are a lot more. Exactly, "Time Waits For No One" is stellar. People talk about Prince's creative run (1978-1988), Stevie's Run (1972-1980), but Michael's super-creative run (1978-1982) with the four albums Destiny, Off The Wall, Triumph, and Thriller ain't nothing to laugh at neither. Plus BAD was a very excellent record. I think I'm going to put on the TRIUMPH album later on today. That was one of the best albums of the year 1980.

That has been known to happen...you would be very suprised to know that alot of MJ fans really dig Prince, and know their funk history. Prince vs. Michael Jackson Rivalry The rivalry between MJ and Prince really got started by the fans of both artists in 1984. In 1984, MJ was still riding high off the success of his THRILLER album which dominated the music charts in 1983. Mike then raked up 8 grammy awards in 1984 and the Thriller album returned back to number one on the album charts for 18 more weeks in 84. Then in the summer of 1984 when Prince scored big with the [color=purple:3f389efd5c:6bbfcbf210]PURPLE RAIN album and movie,Prince fans started exclaming that Mike's reign was over and that a new PRINCE had arrived. I remember there used to be argeuments among fans in my high school back in the day. MJ fans were saying that Mike had the biggest selling album of all time in addition to having more overall years in the music business over Prince. When PURPLE RAIN top the album chart and stayed there for 24 weeks in 1984, Prince fans were saying that Prince was eventually going to overtake Mike's run at number #1 on the album chart which was 38 weeks (for the Thriller album) the rivarly started getting evn more intense when the tours of both artist got on the way in 84'. I remember standing in line or rather camping out with friends to get tickets for The Jacksons Victory Tour in 1984(anybody used to camp out for tickets back in tha day???). Prince fans were riding by in cars blasting songs "Purple Rain" cassette saying stuff like "you people are standing in line for those high MJ tickets,,,Prince is charging only $15 dollar for his tickets and he's a more better performer than MJ will ever be, we're waiting on our our man Prince to come to Atlanta in Jan"(by this time it had been announced that Prince and The Revolution were coming to Atlanta in Jan of 1985). If you remember, The Jacksons Victory Tour in 1984 became controversial because of the $30 ticket price which was an outrageous price during those days and the involvment of Don King as promoter of the tour. I personally enjoyed MJ's 1988 BAD TOUR better that this tour which played to large outdoor stadium venues. There was this notion that either Prince or MJ had to go since both artists couldn't amaze the music world with their respective talents at the same time. IMO, there's room in this universe for both artists. But a lot of people don't see it this way. The rivarlry persist (even though the magnitude is not what it used to be because both artists are not as popular as thery were in the 80's) to this day between MJ vs. Prince fans...yes sometimes EVEN on this website. The so-called rivalry was put in motion by the media too though, and it's a common occurance that they do it with musical acts. I remember there was rarely a time when I could read something about Prince without Michael Jackson being brought up. And Right On! magazine had both on the cover, left and right, asking in effect, who was better. The whole rivalry thing is juvenile. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Time Waits For No One
music & lyrics by: Jackie Jackson and Randy Jackson Lonely, in my darkened room Sad and weary, persevering for love. Sad and weary, persevering. And I hope that she is thinkin' to Come back to me. Is it possible she's thinkin' of me At all? If only, I had shown her love She'd be with me, deep inside me. My love. She'd be with me, deep inside me. And I hope that she is thinkin' to Come back to me. And I pray that faith can bear This suffering inside, 'til she arrives. And I hope that she is thinkin' to Come back to me. And I'm scared there's someone Sleepin' by her side. I can't hide, all the pain deep inside, Is this love? Time waits for no one Time waits for no one Time waits for no one Time waits for no one. (c) 1980 One of my faves, with some of the best harmonizing I've ever heard. Y'all made me wanna listen 2 this disc again. Triumph features "Can You Feel It", "Lovely One", "Your Ways", "Everybody", "This Place Hotel" (formally "Heartbreak Hotel), "Time Waits For No One", "Walk Right Now", "Give It Up" and "Wondering Who". This album was made after Michael's incredible success with "Off The Wall" and right b4 he became the "Thriller". |

My favorite video was "Thriller" because it's the end all be all of videos. It's just the best and the "Making of Thriller" was fantastic. Michael started it and ended it. Case closed.
"Human Nature" is my favorite Michael song simply because it's so magical. The melody, the harmony, his vocals, the songwriting. It's mystical, transcendent and takes you to another place. It's like a musical form of opium.

From the J5 and his early solo carrer my fave ones are:
We're almost there We've got a good thing going How funky is your chicken (pure funkiness) Dancing machine Dear Michael (sugar, sugar, but so touching) From the Jacksons era: Keep on dancin' Show you the way to go (even better live) Blues away Push me away That's what you get (for being polite) Your ways (my absolute favorite one) State of Shock (rocks...) MJ solo work after leaving Motown: You can't win/ Can't get outta the rain (wonderful groove) All the Off the wall album (classic album, fave of fave: Don't stop 'til...Get on the Floor, Off the wall, I can't help it, Burn this disco out.) Wanna be starting somethin' Billie Jean The Lady in my life Carousel (so bad they cut it on the remasted Thriller album) Who is it (you all forget this one??!!!) Stranger in Moscow They don't care about us Butterflies Heaven can wait That's it... As for the videos: Of course Thriller (I don't like the song, but the video is excellent) Billie Jean Smooth Criminal Who is it (David Fincher...) Scream (Mark Romanek is a genius) They don't care about us (Spike Lee's done an amazing job) Stranger in Moscow Black or white and RTT are overrated videos.

"Leave Me Alone" is my favorite song of his. Its driving, angry synth invigorates me and recalls a few girls to whom I would have liked to say "leave me alone." The video is great a-la Peter Gabriel. The fact that it's an exclusive track (not on cassette or vinyl) also makes it kind of special to me.

since weeks has passes and moods have changed, i will say for me the singles released from HISTORY were the best!
i love songs like childhood, earth song, you are not alone i loved his look with the short haircut like in the childhood video. he seemed on my level with the normal, sexy look as compared to thriller. the acapellas of the singles are EXCELLENT as compared to thriller. the lyrics, music, vocals are excellent. i can't believe mj proudced, composed, wrote a song like Earth Song by himself! the video for the earth song was amazing. the way he looked in the video for You are Not alone was sooo nice and he appeared naked once in my dream like that! the earth song inspired me to write an intro part for a poem. a boy whom i showed it to was thanking me saying it inspired him and the teacher said it was nice. i can relate to songs like childhood, earth songs, and you are not alone. stranger in moscow was alright(3 1/2 stars) and they don't care about us was ok (2 stars). i loved the beginning part of who is it and mj looked very nice in a suit with his long hair. black and white to me remains my fav. video of his so far.

* The whole "Off the wall" album
~ The Girl is Mine ~ Human Nature ~ Lady of my Life Favorite video? hmmm.. I love Billie Jean why he is talking about a broad.. and his face looks normal. I also like: Beat It & Thriller & Say Say Say * I really think MJ made turn after that pepsi commerial fire! If you notice ALL the "odd crap" happened after that..even bringing Webster as his date to an award show. Those pain killers ended his ablity to do everything as a normal human.. in his career & personal life.. his sense of judgement went out the window. thats too bad.
