psavage said: Why is this question even being asked? I thought this was a Prince site, if I ever want to talk about MJ then I'll go and comment on a MJ site! Sorry if this is being negative but I don't understand why everyone mentions MJ all the time. I don't like him! apart from "Thriller" his albums and music bore me.
I am a Prince fan, that's why I'm her and that's what I listen to, I listen to other music but don't think that commenting on it here is the right place unless there is a connection to Prince eg. Alicia Keys, anyone who covers Prince, respects Prince, appears on stage with Prince etc... These are the people we should be talking about, not MJ! Stick to the name of the Org, that's why we are here. I think it has something to do with the fact that this is the NON-PRINCE MUSIC SECTION OF THIS SITE...NOW WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE MJ SONG AND WHY!!!???

"Scream", "They Don't Care About Us", "Stranger In Moscow", "This Time Around", "Earth Song", "Money", "You Are Not Alone" and "2 Bad". My favorite, "Money". I played and replayed that over and over... I loved the premise, the drive, the message! It was all good. 2nd Fave, "This Time Around"...he said "I ain't takin' no shit, cuz u really wanna get me, get me"...such anger! I loved it! Did anybody buy the new remastered discs of "Off The Wall", "Thriller", "Bad" and "Dangerous"? They had some special new tracks and demos. The full "rap" by Vincent Price was on the remastered "Thriller"...that's the only one I got. I still want the other 3. I agree with EVERYONE of your choices. These were my favorite songs off HIStory. "This Time Around" was a tight song produced by Dallas Austin. Biggie Smalls aka Notorious B.I.G. laid down a nice flow (as usual for him). I felt like with a video (especially a cameo appearance by Biggie himself) this song would have been large. Should have been released as a single. Money is an overlooked piece too. I like the driving beat in that piece too. I like the hook within the chorus as well. "Earth Song" was another major piece of good work. HIStory wasn't as BAD as people was making it out to be. Not classic material. But it wasn't a bad record overall.

Like I said before I dug the five new singles and that was about it. He always throws in a song to make you cringe. "Girl Is Mine", "Gone Too Soon", the above three on "History", whole "Blood On Dance Floor" album near enough, "Lost Children" etc etc...

Brother 9/15 favorite 10 MJ songs continues...
6.That's What You Get For Being Polite-This record is the answer to those people who feel that Michael haven't done any records from a introspective perspective. One of Michael's greatest songs from the Jacksons great 1978 album DESTINY. Michael sings about a man name Jack "who cries day and night" a man who's not happy with his life. He then goes on later to say that Jack is "all the time getting in to things he can't get out..something deep inside him eating up the pride of him that makes him do tings for all the girls...that's what you get for being polite". Upon intense listening you can tell that Jack is Michael Jackson. In his 1988 in his autobiography MOONWALKER, he admitted that the song was about him. Love the way his brothers lay down the background vocals of"Jack still" while MJ lays down another one of his amazing vocal performances. This song was on the flip B-side of the "Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground single as well. Those that didn't have the "Destiny" album missed out on a gem that didn't bother to flip the single over and play it. A true MJ gem. 7.OFF THE WALL ALBUM-Nothing more needs to be said about this album, except it is one of the few records to come out of the disco era to have lasted this long. A monumental record that combines funky rhythms, disco backbeats, great songwriting material, high production wizardry and a captivating vocalist. 8.Billie Jean- A masterpiece. Nothing more to really except that many consider this to be his signature song. And this is always his showstopper song when he performs it in concert. Also off of the THRILLER album is "The Lady In My Life" which is a nice ballad from Mike. Listen to this song and Janet Jackson's "Funny How Times When You're Having Fun" to hear how Janet imitate Mike's vocal style off of this song. 9.Man In The Mirror- One of the greatest message songs. It's pretty had to beat "if you want to make the world a better place take a look at yourself and make a change" after all it all starts with the individual. Classic song with ANOTHER great vocal to boot. Mike saved this song for last on his 1988 BAD Tour. 10.Butterflies- Hey I got to ranked this one of Mike's greatest songs. The lead vocal, those great multi MJ background vocals layered together, the slow thrusting rhythms. A shame that MJ and Sony are beefing, don't know who's to fault, but this song should have been a major hit. With a video this song would have probably been a number #1 smash for Mike. The song is so infectious.

Never Can say good-bye, I'll be there...the entire Destiny album, The Jacksons album (can you feel it), Off the Wall album, and I think it was the Dangerous cd...if that had keep it in the closet and remember the time on it
And yes Butterflies was so good...I even like the version with Eve.

My all-time favourite:
MJ song is: Is a tie between Get On The Floor...that funky bass line is up their with anything Boosty ever did with Parliament or the bass line in Diana Ross's Upside Down...and Don't Stop...from Off The Wall. It has Q's flawless production, The Seawind Orchestra and Michael's awesome vocals. Its a timeless classic that is funkier than any of the so-called R'n'B that is out today! MJ video: Hands down Thriller it revolutionised song and dance visually...and with John Landis's direction and Rick Baker's cool make-up it was like watching a mini-movie. I remember seeing with my friends for the first time on MTV....it was so amazing. Since then everyone from Janet to Usher has used the blueprint! Plus I loved that red jacket and that scene where the zombie loses his arm cracks me up every time. I feel that the music he did with the Jackson 5, The Jacksons and his early solo work and more heart and soul and represent who he really was...and excellent and graceful song and dance man. These days due largely to pressue brought on by SONY and the media (who promote the notion that with every release you have to top yourself to be considered successful) planted in his head that only sales matter and not artisic growth...both Dangerous and HIStory clearly showed that he lost his way with those albums and his diction was way off! Even though Invincible in particular Butterflies (that is another fav jam of mine) was an improvement despite some sappy songs (in particular the horrible The Lost Children) I think had he just worked with one producer with would have been more consistent.I hope that once his fight with SONY is finally over, that Michael reassess himself and finds a way to release music that recaptures the esscence of who he really is and its not to late to do that...that is something we would all like to see! "in particular the horrible The Lost Children"
I think I'm the only person on the planet who likes that song...lol...I like it because it clearly comes from his heart. It was written and produced by Michael all by himself and, unlike many of the other songs on the album,it is a very non-commercial song, not meant to be a hit or anything. But it has a good, timely message.

Some of my other favorite MJ songs...
***"I Can't Help It"(1979)---OH LAWD!! This song is pure bliss. It's more "Quiet Storm" than most MJ songs.A masterpiece!! ***"It's The Falling In Love"(1979)---Another highlight from the flawless 'Off The Wall' album. This nice, midtempo song is sexy and sultry, featuring Patti Austin singing with Michael. ***"The Lady In My Life"(1982)---Honestly,I prefer MJ's ballads, they're all fantastic!! ***"Another Part Of Me"(1987)---This is a funky song,my favorite track on the 'Bad' album. ***"Man In The Mirror"(1987)---What a great "message song"! A perfect song for the greed-driven 80s...lol... ***"Liberian Girl"(1987)---another sublime MJ ballad ***"Why You Wanna Trip On Me"(1991)---I love what MJ is saying in this song.I usually hate when celebrities whine about the pressures of fame, but I dig this song.

That has been known to happen...you would be very suprised to know that alot of MJ fans really dig Prince, and know their funk history. Prince vs. Michael Jackson Rivalry The rivalry between MJ and Prince really got started by the fans of both artists in 1984. In 1984, MJ was still riding high off the success of his THRILLER album which dominated the music charts in 1983. Mike then raked up 8 grammy awards in 1984 and the Thriller album returned back to number one on the album charts for 18 more weeks in 84. Then in the summer of 1984 when Prince scored big with the PURPLE RAIN album and movie,Prince fans started exclaming that Mike's reign was over and that a new PRINCE had arrived. I remember there used to be argeuments among fans in my high school back in the day. MJ fans were saying that Mike had the biggest selling album of all time in addition to having more overall years in the music business over Prince. When PURPLE RAIN top the album chart and stayed there for 24 weeks in 1984, Prince fans were saying that Prince was eventually going to overtake Mike's run at number #1 on the album chart which was 38 weeks (for the Thriller album) the rivarly started getting evn more intense when the tours of both artist got on the way in 84'. I remember standing in line or rather camping out with friends to get tickets for The Jacksons Victory Tour in 1984(anybody used to camp out for tickets back in tha day???). Prince fans were riding by in cars blasting songs "Purple Rain" cassette saying stuff like "you people are standing in line for those high MJ tickets,,,Prince is charging only $15 dollar for his tickets and he's a more better performer than MJ will ever be, we're waiting on our our man Prince to come to Atlanta in Jan"(by this time it had been announced that Prince and The Revolution were coming to Atlanta in Jan of 1985). If you remember, The Jacksons Victory Tour in 1984 became controversial because of the $30 ticket price which was an outrageous price during those days and the involvment of Don King as promoter of the tour. I personally enjoyed MJ's 1988 BAD TOUR better that this tour which played to large outdoor stadium venues. There was this notion that either Prince or MJ had to go since both artists couldn't amaze the music world with their respective talents at the same time. IMO, there's room in this universe for both artists. But a lot of people don't see it this way. The rivarlry persist (even though the magnitude is not what it used to be because both artists are not as popular as thery were in the 80's) to this day between MJ vs. Prince fans...yes sometimes EVEN on this website.

No Doubt.that was a Fun&Very Creative time period in Music IMHO.the Dynamic Duo of the 80's IMHO.I Only go by the Music.I don't get into anything else.both Artists IMHO have had better days&have there Issues but at the end of the day i dig there Work&Respect what they have meant to Me&My Ears.so I don't care what anyone says about Either one of them all in all I think alot of there Talent,Depth,Drive,Focus&the Will to overcome odds.for Two Black Men to Look Radio,TV,etc.. hate in the Eye&Still make a Name for themselves&make that Industry take Notice speaks Volumes to me.because the 80's wasn't that long ago.they Both Sacrificed alot&still are IMHO.I'm glad I'm not the only one! I'm glad I'm not the only one! (haterz) Yup. I'm a big fan of both (but I do rate Prince higher!). However saying that, IMO I think MJ has gone downhill since Dangerous. Invincible was nowhere near as bad as I expected but at the same time it wasn't brilliant and there wasn't much to hold my attention. I find this whole MJ- Prince rivalry lame. Why can't I like both?

I don't think Michael has gone down hill since Dangerous at all. That's a banging album. I always programme tracks 1,3,5,6,11,8,9,10,12 and 14 and you have a great 10 track album. Same with History, i leave off tracks 6,8,10,14 and 15 and you have another great 10 track album. Off the Wall and Thriller are fine as they are (altho' i'm not too fussed about tracks 2 and 3 on Thriller) and for the Bad album i exchange Streetwalker for Just Good Friends and leave off after Smooth Criminal. The 5 new songs on Blood on the Dancefloor were cool and i like all of Invincible (altho' i sometimes skip songs 11-14.)
Favourite songs - Don't stop til u get enough, Working day and night, Billie Jean, In the Closet, Who Is It, Will u be there, Money, Stranger in Moscow, Scream, Morphine, Butterflies, Heartbreaker, 2000 watts. Fave video is a toss-up between Scream and In the Closet. Both Michael and Naomi look well fit in that vid.

How in the world can you forget "time waits for no one"? that's a classic.
My MJ faves are ones from his early days.. "With a childs heart" "call on me" "If I dont love you this way" (lOOOVE THIS SONG, CHILE, WHEW!) "When I come of age" "Music and Me" and there are a lot more.
