Chaka Khan & Me'shell NdegéOcello - "Never miss the water"

This is probably the best song Chaka Khan recorded in the 90s, this is how she should sing....

Actually, I heard this incredible joint on her Epiphany Vol.1 collection. Have you heard the other new joints that were on that collection?

interestingly, this song is actually from an unreleased Chaka Khan album titled 'Dare You To Love Me'.It was recorded in 1995 but unfortunately,Warner Bros. rejected it.The tracklist consisted of:

Dare You To Love Me
Never Miss The Water
Don't Take Back Your Love
Love Me Still
Pain
Miles Blowin'
Everywhere
Let My Heart Go
You And I Are One
Power
Color Of A Dream I Had
Whatever I Want
Every Little Thing
Something Deep
Your Love Is All I Know
It Ain't Easy Lovin' Me
Superlife (bonus track)

Several of these tunes, including "Never Miss The Water",made it onto Chaka's Greatest Hits CD 'Ephinany',released in 1996.Still,I'd love to hear this album in it's original form.Insiders swear that it's one of the strongest albums she's ever made.

doh! I didn`t realize "Love me still" was recorded in the 90s, i thought it was from an 80s soundtrack. That means "Never miss the water" is the SECOND best song from the 90s....

I've got a copy of "Dare You To Love Me". It would have been her most consistent album yet...it's a killer.

I really liked this song. Very good vocals. It should've been a bigger hit (it should've been a hit!).

Warner Brothers' dismissive attitude 2ward "I Dare U To Love Me" was the stroke that broke the camel's back, as far as Chaka goes.

They didn't give her the creative control she deserved. They sent a young A&R chic telling her that she should put a record that sounds like Faith Evans/Mary J Blige.

Telling that to Chaka? omfg baaaaad mistake disbelief lol she stormed back @ her "If you want Faith and Mary then motherfucker, go get 'em". Why in the blue dumb fuck would they want her to sound like Faith & Mary for anyway? falloff

Altho, I do agree about it being a TOUGH COOKIE, it doesn't come close to her Watcha Gonna Do 4 Me masterpiece. That record was the JOINT!

nod I play this CD in my car all the time.

My only gripe is that it's missing a few songs:

"Clouds" (1980)
"Slow Dancing" with Rick James (1982)
"Got To Be There" (1982)
"Fate" (1980)

"Clouds" should definitely be there, so should "Fate", which is the best song on the "Watcha..." album. I haven`t heard "Slow dancing"
For some reason, i don`t really like "Got to be there", not Michael Jackson`s original or Chaka`s cover, i wonder what rest of that album is like though, i know it`s very hard to find...

Not 2 me .
Everywhere is a musically & rhythmically well re-arranged version of the Fleedwood Mack classic .
Every Little Thing is another infectious stepper , produced by MeShell's former music-companion , David Gamson ( Scritti Pollitti )
Love Me Still is indeed a great ballad . The early mentioned Clockers-soundtrack on which it appears opens with one of the best slow jazz-soul song iv'e heard so far .
Forgot who sings it ( something with " Marc " in it ) . Anyway , incredible ballad combined with sphereful soprano-sax additions , solo and cinematic orchestration
.
