S.O.S. Band My interest in this band is growing and growing.
It seems I've heard a ton of their songs without realizing who they were. When I lived in the Bay Area (1994-1995), there was an excellent hip hop station that did excellent flashback sets peppered with Prince, Tom Tom Club, and, now that I've looked into it, the S.O.S. Band. I've been grooving to "Take Your Time" ever since I heard "Get Together" by Madonna and thought that "Baby, we can do it/We can do it all right" lyric sounded familiar. Then, last Tuesday, I saw the Human League in concert. As a sort of tribute to Jam and Lewis, Phil let the girls take the lead on a cover of "Just Be Good to Me" that rocked my socks off. Of course, they followed it up with "Human." And then there's Janet sampling "Tell Me If You Still Care." Seems like this group is everywhere right now. My question is, where do I start? After some initial research, they seem like the kind of band that has the bulk of their output out of print on CD, and there seems to be only one greatest hits compilation available with shoddy artwork and single edits of each song. If anyone could point me in the direction of something more comprehensive, that would be great. I love the 8+ minute versions of "Take Your Time" and "Just Be Good to Me" that I've heard. | |

What's Wrong With Our Love Affair? The songs are the album versions. It is missing three good songs though.... S.O.S. (Dit, Dit, Dit, Dat, Dat, Dat, Dit, Dit, Dit) For Your Love Just The Way You Like It If you are lucky enough to find the 12 Inch of "Just Be Good To Me" and "Just The Way You Like It", the dub version on the B Side is really great. The A Side is just the album version though. Andy is a four letter word. | |

It's really a shame that the Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis-produced albums -- 1983's "On the Rise," 1984's "Just the Way You Like It" and 1986's "Sands of Time" -- are not readily available. The S.O.S. Band was the production team's first outright sucess and practically all their hit songs save "Take Your Time (Do It Right)" came from them. The first two albums are on CD.I bought those several years ago.I wish they would put the third album on CD.It contains my favorite SOS Band song "High Hopes",which was a sizable hit in late 1982. | |

I am a big fan of the song sending out an S O S dit dit dit and never heard them perform that song except when that lp came out. the 45 is a better version than the lp. high hopes is definitely the lick. they perfom that song still. nipsy | |
