Do looks affect who's music you buy?

I notice many big artists are big because of their looks and not their music.
I was curious, if anyone here would refuse to buy and album from an ugly person?
No, I am serious, do looks affect who you listen or don't listen to?
All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

Looks probably affect whose music videos I watch, so if that promotion has any affect on me, it could affect what I buy.

Looks do not affect who's music I buy.. Personality does. I will never ever buy a Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, Eminem etc. album, simply because I think those people make fools out of themselves and I don't believe they 'live' for their music.

You got people like Neil Young for example, he doesn't give a shit about his image or his looks and he gets all my respect for making such beautiful music.

But then again, Prince, I think he is a bit of a controle freak when it comes to his looks, but he lives for his music and has some interesting things to say.

Well, it affects me in the opposite way. If someone is playing up their looks, it makes me doubt their musical ability.

In my case it doesn't cos the music runs deep for me so I won't tolerate inferior shit, but I think record companies are much more likely to invest in a good looking artist because they're considered more marketable.

More marketable means... looks better in print and video promotions, right?

Most of the time, it's all about the sound of the music itself.

And if the music is wack (IMO), I wouldn't buy it.

Yeah, I think magazines and the like just generally prefer to put good looking faces in their mags. Same goes for video channels.

Looks does not affect the music I buy at all. I grew up in the days when you only saw the artists on appearances on television shows or you saw their picture on the album cover. If you bought their 45 or 12 Inch, you didn't see them at all. I didn't find out until the 2000s that Kano (who did "I'm Ready" in 1980) was a white group.

I love that. I can guarantee you if things were still like that the music industry would be a lot healthier. Back in the 50s people would book Chuck Berry to perform and only when he got there would they find out he was black. No one knew. In the early 60s people would come and see Smokey Robinson and only then realise that he was a man!

The only way I find out is because their picture was in the inside booklet of a compilation CD I bought called "Billboard: Dance Hits of 1980". They had a song on there called "It's A War".

In those days, you had to go by actual talent because music was not a fraction as visible as it is today.
