JJ FAD's Supersonic--appreciation thread

I frickin' played this cassette out when I was in jr. high. My friends and I wanted those sweatshirts so badly. We knew all the words to every song on that album--we wanted to be JJ Fad. (Which is really quite funny considering we were white girls growing up in a farm town in Iowa. lol ) Baby D. was my personal favorite. cool

So today I was at Tower Records with a friend, saying how I wished they had the JJ Fad cd, but I'm sure they wouldn't. (Or if I found it, it would be really expensive.) And Tower is having 'buy 4 cds get the 5th free' so I have my 4 cds and am going to get A Salt with a Deadly Pepa for my 5th when I see it:

I was like excited excited excited out-of-control. dancing jig dancing jig And Salt 'n Pepa got ditched for anther time. smile

I frickin' love this album--produced by Dr. Dre, DJ Yella, and Eazy E. And I still know all the words...

How about Now Really? A thinly veiled dig at Salt n Pepa (which in and of itself is pretty funny considering S&P lasted much longer). My favorite lines are bolded...

Now Really

Kickin, back wastin’ some time
thinkin’ ‘bout some suckas and what comes to mind
some females that despise me
in other words the little bitches dislike me
but ask me if I care and I’ll just laugh
straight up while I’m signing my autograph
on the back of your glossy I’ll leave my signature
‘cause just face it nobody wants a picture of you hanging anywhere that they might go
‘cause I’ve seen a better picture on a can of Alpo

on the serious tip
the girl is hurt with them big pork chop lips
that keep flappin’ sayin’ nothing worth listening to
so if I ever say wack yo I’m referring to you home girl, yeah you, the ugly one
I’m tired of being nice
so I think it’s time I come correct and let cha know where my mind’s at
So face the facts
your record’s just wick-wick-wack
Too bad with a capital ‘W’

Sugar ‘n Spice we didn’t forget about you
don’t diss us, cause you’ll be pissin’ us
And right now I know you’re sittin there listenin to us
Thinkin to yourself, ‘how can I get back?’
Now really, do you think that you can do that?
From what I heard it’d be a hell of a task
If you needed the money homegirl all ya had to do was ask
And I’da served ya then like I’m servin’ ya now you stupid cows get off the tip!

Cause to the fellas I’m known as a heartthrob
but everybody thinks of you as a rush job
Rushin’ everything you do and constantly failin’
And then you wonder why your records not sellin’?
First of all it’s the concept for goodness sake
Dissin us now that was your first mistake
Cause when I heard the record I just dropped
(Yes I can-can)
Can what—make a flop?
Yo it wasn’t funky, it wasn’t legit
‘Cause you’re just like a soap opera: young and you’re restless
Suckas
It was dumb, it was silly
Thinkin you can get some a this…now really

Yo this is personal, on the serious tip, Sassy tell ‘em what time it is:

There’s only one thing to do when I’m on the attack
Sit in the corner, get fitted for the dunce hat
Cause it’s me, a part of the three
The capital J-J-F-A-D
So everybody listen up I got something to say
About all these suckas tryin to stand in my way
When we dropped Supersonic, yo it was a trip
Cause every girl in the world was cold ridin’ the tip
Sayin, ‘I could beat them. Their record’s so damn sad.’
Sayin ‘Let’s make a record dissin’ JJ Fad.’
But we didn’t care cause Supersonic’s still bustin’ at the same time fill our pockets up
That’s right we’re getting paid, cold payin’ the rent
Why ya on that sad labor clockin 5 percent
Stupid
You’re so stupid and I think it’s funny

Don’t you know that fool’s spending all your money homegirl
You surprise me I thought that you were smarter than that
But
You need to put your rhymes back on the spice rack
Cause you’re a biter, bitin’ everything
You know something?
I think you even call bitch you name

Sugar ‘n Spice now that was wack
You coulda been a little more original than that
And you tried to diss us? It was dumb, it was silly
Thinkin’ you could get some of this?
Now really

Yo. Too bad Sugar ‘n Spice and anybody else who thinks they can get some
This one’s for you…

junior high???

I feel so old. I was sophomore in college when that song was out. lol

Supersonic was my jam. Although, I have to admit, that's the only song I know by them.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Show your heart for Baby D, Sassy C. & MC JB. cool

"Now Really" was not a Salt N'Pepa Diss...it was a Sugga & Spice diss...they did however diss Salt N'Pepa,Roxanne Shante,The Real Roxanne, and Sparky D. on "Anotha Ho/Anotha Tramp" which was the B-Side to the original first pressing of "Supersonic" that was released in 1987 on Dreamteam records...this was back when J.J.Fad had 5 members and not 3.

The original opening to "Supersonic" for those who aren't aware went as such.....

We're JJ Fad and were here to rock....
rhymes like are could never be stopped...
see theirs 5 of us and I know were fresh...
party rocker's non-stoppers and our names are def...
you see the J is for Juana...
the other for Juanita...
the F is for Fatima...
and the D is for Dania...
behind the turntable we have Lady Anna...
mixin and scratchin she's a sho nuff jamma...

The founding members of J.J.Fad were MC J.B.(Juana),Baby D.(Dania),Crazy J.(Juanita),OG Rocka (Fatima),and Lady Anna....Sassy C.(Michelle Franklin) didn't become a member until they signed with Ruthless records and the 3 other girls were ditched...even Sassy C. went on hiatus during her tenure with J.J.Fad and was temporarily replaced by a young lady named Classy P. who was a former member of Oaktown's 357(see Yeah,Yeah,Yeah video)...Sassy C. did however return for the release of their 2nd and final album.
