Who was the last innovator in music? In your opinion who was the last innovator in music, and or record in music and why would you say this? I have many ideas but would like to know about yours. Carpenters bend wood, fletchers bend arrows, wise men fashion themselves.

Meshell Ndegeocello deserves her props. She's sometimes credited as the REAL engineering artist behind "neo-soul" and her sound was totally new back when she premiered in 1993.

Indeed. And, from the hip-hop side, I'd cast my vote for 2 great collaborations, Madvillain and Gnarls Barkley. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

[Edited 8/2/06 12:28pm] Fair points. DangerDoom is a great project and the other collabos he's done are outstanding, but IMHO Gnarls is his signature project to date. Kirk Franklin
He simultaneously "Revolution"ized Gospel music and took youth ministry to a level that even God's people couldn't have expected. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

The Winans album "It's Time" (produced mostly by Teddy Riley) was far more "revolutionary" in gospel. There were others, like The Winans, before Kirk Franklin, that took a lot of heat 4 not being traditional Gospel music. Kirk Franklin, God Bless him, and personal problems aside, owes MC Hammer alot.
