The Makeover Has anyone bought the new Jody Watley CD yet? I'm curious. What is it like? I hope it's funky and not all slow.

August 10, 2006 'THE MAKEOVER' IS THE #1 SELLING CD AT THE VIRGIN MEGASTORE CHAIN!!!!!
**The title won't be able to chart because it is exclusive to Virgin and iTunes - but if so I would debut in the Top 30! If you have come to the instores and I have hugged you, taken a photo with you, took the time to chat, while signing copies of 'THE MAKEOVER' please post comments on the internet .. the haters always try to have a louder voice! The staff has said it is an 'anomaly' for an artist to stand up and pose for pictures with fans - and make an effort to make the events personable - people are blown away by my obvious appreciation for my fans. Send copies of those pics we've taken together! THANK YOU AND LET'S KEEP SPREADING THE WORD! This is only Phase 1! ** wtf??? Visit www.giantstep.net to hear a few previews! . Jody Watley's ninth solo album, appropriately titled ‘The Makeover’ (Avitone Recordings), puts a pop-tronic spin and proverbial twist on the concept of "the cover record." The result is a groove-laden odyssey of fresh sounds that find the Grammy Award winning artist doing "makeovers" of contemporary classicssuch as Bob Marley’s "Waiting in Vain," Diana Ross' "Love Hangover," Chic’s “I Want Your Love” and Madonna’s “Borderline” in addition to inspired new material, including “A Bed Of Roses” with the UK’s sublime powerhouse Drum and Bass outfit 4 HERO. The lead single from the project, “Borderline," is an ambient slow jam that flips the original, bringing new depth and poignancy to the song.
‘The Makeover’ showcases this venerable artist, arguably a pop icon that helped define an era, thinking "outside the box” as Watley chooses to forego a conventional pop approach, opting to embrace a bold musical statement that includes collaborations with some of today's most sought-after DJ/producers of electronica, nu-soul and deep house. As she states in the liner notes, this personal project is heavily influenced by the DJ and club culture she's come to love and be inspired by. It’s no wonder that her collaborations with King Britt, 4 Hero, DJ Spinna, Ron Trent, and Chris Brann on ‘The Makeover’ have yielded top-shelf, beat-savvy and breathtaking results. On the title track, the self-penned ‘The Makover (Superstar)’, Watley denounces the current obsession with celebrity and perils of low self-esteem often associated with it, encouraging the listener to take a stand and be their own “superstar.” It is at once unapologetically refreshing and thoroughly modern. Clearly, this is not the Jody Watley of the 80’s and 90’s, but a contemporary artist making the music she wants to make on her own terms. After listening to ‘The Makeover,’ it becomes very clear why Jody Watley has become a force to be reckoned with on the global modern music scene. tracks Intro Ms. Jody Watley Don't You Want Me (King Britt's Scuba Mix) Waiting In Vain (Ron Trent Mix) A Beautiful Life A Bed Of Roses Featuring 4 Hero I Want Your Love Love Hangover Borderline Close To You / Superstar / We've Only Just Begun (medley) Friendz Featuring Voshaun Gotti The Makeover (Superstar) Midnight Lounge (Mark De Clive-Lowe Makeover Mix) A Beautiful Life (A Beautiful Dub)

I can't believe I stuck around last night to see Jody Watley perform at "Splash", which is a gay club here in NYC. She only did one fuc*ing song!!!
She did "I Want Your Love"(by Chic). She looked great, but I was really disappointed!

Maybe album sales are that damn low that it's possible but the not being able to chart doesn't make any sense either...Whatever. So I can't buy this album anywhere else? I guess it's the number one best seller because she made an appearance....still doesn't make sense that it won't chart. She might be full of shit there...debut in the top 30?

I'm hip to the producers she recorded with on this one .

Can anyone say for sure that this CD is only available through Itunes and Virgin. I didn't find it at Meijer, but that doesn't say much. Should I go looking for it at Borders and FYE or not bother. Amazon has it listed but one review has someone complaining that they didn't get it yet....that's happened before where they will list something but not have it available.

Emusic has it. Though I was somewhat disappointed. I thought she was getting back into the dance thing. It's more "chill" tracks. I guess it's an ok disc, was just hoping for more.
Do your thang Jody. I ain't mad atcha

all the places i've checked, said that they don't even have a listing. so i think it is exclusive, (for the time being at least), to iTunes and Virgin.

I think a Top 30 debut is a stech....could a singing really bring in that much business? Maybe Virgin only did the signing if the album was an exclusive. I think you can get it through Amazon since Virgin Mega is linked to Amazon. I'll probably get it there soon.

No but I might soon if Amazon truly sells it (it appears that they do since they are connected with the Virgin Megastore. Only problem is it says it takes 4 to 6 weeks to get it in stock. There is another CD I want that takes that long, too, so I will probably order them together (to get free shipping). I might do that real soon. I just ordered some stuff from Amazon recently and got it very fast.

I haven't read a review that sold me on it. I loved CD possibly better than her hit stuff (it's so much deeper and smoother) and I really love her hit stuff! Is it anything like that? Is there any dance stuff or it it really "chill", like her verison of "Boderline"?

"Borederline" is the slowest track off the album. soulful elctronica/lounge is a good description. you can definitely groove to it. "Friendz" and "I Want Your Love" (slated as the next single) have potential to be club bangers. at 1st listen i liked half the tracks...but now i love each one and it grows on you. standouts are "i want your love" "don't you want me" "friendz" "makeover(superstar)" i think you can sample each track on her website.

If they do a remix to I want your love, Don't you want me, clubs and fans would be happy. Before she came on they played a remix (fast version) of her Borderline and it was very hot. I know its somewhere. I asked her about more makeovers. There had to be more than what made it onto the cd. She said that more would be released on itunes. This is an independent release. To get this buzz is Little Miss Sunshine making money. Its mostly word of mouth that sells it. ---------------------------------

Okay, I'm a little late to be such a fan but finally got The Makeover and I'm lovin' it.
I can listen to this and Midnight Lounge back to back with no skipping. I love the photos inside too. Relieved to see that cosmetic surgery shot (it was posted on here long before the CD dropped) was just a fake. She's beautiful just the way she is. The Makeover Superstar is one of my favorites. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off
