I didn't know there was something wrong with liking him.
Better count me guilty, then.
There's not much of his music that I don't like.

I like him too. I watched a concert of his on PBS one night and I loved it. He is a terrific songwriter/musician. All that.

I can see why some haven't fully checked this guy out..
when all these females were melting and raving about him.. i kindof steered clear of the man, thought it was just some pop fad thing goin on.. but the guy seems to be evolvin, and less concerned about a social status in the pop buiz... he actually has enough talent to let his music speak for himself.. i think we will see part of that on the new album.

I like him too, but he is to music fans what Micahel Bolton use to be, a guilty pleasure, I think like Michael people see him as a case of wasted talent on MOR music.

JM has songwriting and guitar-playing chops. He's the real deal, as his trio album proved.

If anything, he's using it wisely. Those that choose to follow his other work, will have that benefit too. But if not, let them name one song that they can say he's wasted an ounce of talent on.

yep, i find his music very relaxing. he's somebody that you listen to when you are kind of melancholy, yet not sad, but not really energetic either.

I always get this picture in my brain of somebody smoking a cigarette relaxing on a beach or in their den when i hear his music.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Love him and I have noticed some are particularly critical of liking him but I don't care. Sometimes I hate when artist get really popular because then they're more of a target rather than the object of your own private joy.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with liking him in my eyes.

His solo stuff showcases his songwriting and arranging chops, his stuff with the John Mayer Trio shows off his musicianship, and seeing him live (both solo and with the Trio) proves that he is a musician in the truest sense of the word. He is an amazing guitarist.

When I say amazing, I mean he can hang with guys like Clapton and Prince on guitar and not be embarrased. He's the real deal.

New CD out September 12 entitled "Continuum". Early word is that it will try and bridge the gap between his older solo stuff and the blues-based stuff he's been doing with the Trio.

At any rate, check him out live this fall if you get the chance. If you like seeing real musicians do their thing, you won't be disappointed.

I really liked the Room for Squares album, and I Love this one:

I know some people are tired of his voice, but he's No Joke on that guitar!!! and touring with Herbie Hancock's Headhunters helped to expand his horizons even more...

[ btw, that Headhunters '05 live lineup looked like this: Hancock (piano, keys), John Mayer (guitar), Marcus Miller (bass), Roy Hargrove (trumpet), Kenny Garrett (saxophone), Munyungo Jackson (percussion), Lionel Loueke (guitar), and Terri Lynn Carrington (drums).]

What a band! I'm sorry I missed that tour.
Try! is probably one of my favorite albums this year.

clapping Preach. I've heard of bashing today's mainstream music (I know I do) but just because something is popular doesn't mean it's automatically bad or overrated.

CynicKill

Is the record label pushing this (Waiting On The World To Change) seriously, or is it one of those "teaser" songs that the labels sometimes put out for buzz, because this song is tanking on the charts.

I know! I'm hoping somebody filmed that tour!! He also guests on jazz guitarist John Scofield's latest album, "That What I Say"...

That same band with Wah Wah Watson instead of John Mayer.

I agree that the cat can play.
With the "Trio" record, along with things like his appearance at the guitar-a-thon Crossroads Festival, he's making a concerted effort to show his "player" side.
