And God Created Womack

A little Bobby Womack appreciation.

He wrote "It's All Over Now" later done by The Stones. You can hear Bobby sing backup all over their "Dirty Work" CD. (Next time you hear "Harlem Shuffle" listen for him.)

He was friends of course with Sam Cooke and there were raised eyebrows after Sam's passing since Bobby married Linda.

I've always wondered which tracks he and Billy Preston played on "There's A Riot Goin' On"

And he wrote "Breezin". Can you imagine the royalty checks he and Leon Russell get? He did a killer version of "All Along The Watchtower.

Love Bobby Womack, had the honor of see him perform a few times. He was real sexy at the time. Doing some pretty sexy moves with the shirt opened and showing chest hair. The man has a beautiful voice. Haven't heard anything from him of late...

Man, please don't get me started on Bobby Womack. His "Understanding" album is fucking brilliant and "Across 110th St" is classic. I met Bobby when I was 4 years old. He and my dad were pretty good friends.

I've only recently gotten into Bobby, but I think he's already one of my favorite singers, and I really dig his guitar playin as well guitar. I can't really make up my mind which song I've heard that I like best though, Communication Sho nuff is funky though and I think his version of All Along the Watchtower is even better than Hendrix's

Bobby Womack!! What can I say about this cat that hasn't been said before? Brilliant musician, guitarist, vocalist, songwriter extraordinaire. His Communication album is one of my all time favorites. His version of Close To You is 9 1/2 mins of pure genius.

Bobby Womack was an artist I backed into via the Stones (It's All Over Now) when 12 X 5 was released.

Then come to find out that he'd written a few nice tunes for Wilson Pickett (I'm In Love, Midnight Mover) and had some nice guitar skills (lefty upside-down at that).

Once That's the Way I Feel About 'Cha came out along with his 9 minute take on Close To You from Communication, that did it.

Trickology

There was a cool site called R and B Page and they did a professionally produced interview with Womack and on it he was playing acoustic guitar in his house. I think it got ripped down.

Big Womack fan..... one of the best.....
Man did that guy lose out his album quality though in the nineties. It just got cheaper and cheaper. And the Memphis Strings packed their bagss and wentttt awaaay

Bobby come back. Tommy Sims will help you produce your effort lol

my mom listened to his music when i was little in the 70's. i remember being home in the states in 2000 and swiping all of her bobby womack 45's cool. she was furious at first, but since i've put all her favorite tunes of his to cd, i've gotten off okay, haha. one thing abot b.w. is, once i moved to europe permenantly, i was amazed that you could find so much of his stuff here. just a couple of months ago, i bought 2 bobby womack concerts on dvd for about 4 euro each! this place is a soul music lover's paradise...

Yeah, I adore "I'm In Love". The chord changes are brilliant. That could have easily been a standard, typical r&b cut in many other folks hands, but Bobby and his great sense of melody, turned that into a coldblooded ballad.

Aretha did a nice version of it. Since you mentioned the chord changes I'm going to buy it on Itunes and shed on it. There is always something to learn.
