We can't have this thread without tapping into the 60s - british invasion stuff naturally, and a lot of the classic motown single barely broke two minutes.

all of the older stuff was pretty short. that's part of what's great about 50's/60's and some 70's stuff. they could fit everything into 2, 3, 3 and a 1/2 minutes, and it doesn't feel like anything's missing.

i'd like it if that trend came back, because, frankly, if you can't fit it into 4 minutes, then you've either lost your way somewhere in the middle of it or you're too in love with your own talent.

The only reason I didn't list Motown is because it isn't Rock. But that's the only reason. wink

It's making me think of those short cool Dave Clark Five, Gerry and The Pacemakers, Zombies, etc, tunes.

And the Chuck Berry, Little Richard & Fats Domino tunes.

Come to think of it, most of the tunes on that 1st Moby Grape album were under 3:00.
