Who's buying the 4 new Cure remasters??? They come out today!
I seriously cannot wait for these. The last batch are perhaps the most classic and cultlike of all of their albums and they were definitely the most in need of remastering. But these four are where The Cure showed that they were capable of nearly any style of music. Since I moved back to my hometown from Detroit, I have a hard time finding releases like this. But I'm not opposed to travelling. If I don't find these this morning at Best Buy, I'm jumping in my car and heading to the city. I MUST HAVE THEM!!! Anyone else geeking out like I am?

Oh, and I remember when the last batch came out that the Faith reissue was a huge revelation for you. I imagine that The Top might have a similar effect.

You're certainly well on your way. well, i remember getting "kiss me" right when it first came out, and i saw the disintegration tour in chicago when it came around. i was a big cure fan up to the "friday i'm in love" days, then they lost me for a long time when they went through their own "never let me down" phase. i like "bloodflowers" a lot and there's stuff i enjoy from their last album, but if anything has drawn them back to me, it's the reissues and things like "trilogy".

I plan on getting them after work today. I already sold the original CDs on ebay so it will be nice to have them in my collection again.
And in preparation, I will be listening to the first four remasters all day today.

Yeah, it's definitely one of the cult favorites. It's maybe the most schizo, fractured, freaky think they've ever done. But that's why I love it. I'd say it's the most underrated and overlooked in their catelogue. It's definitely a transitional album, but also one where they tried out a million new things that came to fruition on Head and Kiss Me. I liken it to Diamond Dogs and Around the World in a Day - transitional, paranoid, colorful, scary and all over the place.

For sure. It's a great time to be a Cure fan. I'd say the pinnacle of this phase is the Join The Dots box.

i will definitely get:
the top head on the door those 2 are 2 of my all time favorites. i will probably get all of the remastered editions eventually, but will get those 2 immediately. however, i will probably pass on the glove. it never moved me. when it came out back in the day, i was so pumped, because in that era, siouxsie and the cure were 2 of my absolute favorites, but when i heard it, it really let me down. maybe i should revisit it before blowing it off. ------------------------------------------------

Oh, c'mon. It wasn't that bad, was it? i thought so. and from what i read in interviews a couple of years back, robert smith seemed to think so too. "wild mood swings" seemed to be the low point of his creative run so far, at least according to him.

did anybody else think Bananafishbones sounds different somehow?

Why isn't the song "Torture" on the remastered version? It seems they took off this song and put "Hey You" in it's place. What's the deal?

Wild Mood Swings has some amazing material on it. Robert has said the problem with that CD was the sequencing, and song selection, and I think he's right. Eliminate 2 or 3 tracks - Club America and Gone, in particular - add a couple b-sides and resequence it, and I think Wild Mood Swings is a very solid record. The material was there, it was just the delivery that was flawed, in my opinion.

I'm not really a big Cure fan these days, but I'm definitely going to pick up Kiss Me X 3 for old time's sake. I have to pick up Disintegration at some point as well - I only have a rickety old cassette version of that one. Is that slotted for the remaster treatment as well?
Edit - I might check out the Glove record as well. I've never actually heard that album in full, but the bits and pieces I've come across over the years sounded pretty good. [Edited 8/8/06 16:11pm]

I was wondering how "Hey You" was able to fit on the CD.
