http://www.youtube.com/wa...lhLnxnBWiw He still sounds amazing. His voice is one of the purest pleasures in pop music. I've never actually heard any of his recordings outside of his commercial heyday in the seventies, though I've come close to picking up one of his religious recordings out of curiousity a few times.

Al has always been the man with the soul/gospel voice. I saw him in concert in Montego Bay, Jamaica and he cut it up, came off the stage and into the audience. My favorite is still "Love and Happiness."

This is nice.
I've always like those songs by Al you have to listen to. Stuff like "Beware" and "Jesus Is Waiting" have all of these kewl nuances. Even in stuff like "Let's Get Married" Al always sings these little asides: "Aw, you don't know me" and "I don't love anybody anyway." And I thought "Wow." Driving Wheel, Can't Get Next To You. Their are a lot of them besides the hits we all love. "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page

It's a nice slab of country soul. I dig it too. But the song before it on I'm Still In Love With You, "What A Wonderful Thing Love Is" is my favorite Al Green song. Man, that melody is the best one he's ever written, imo. The string arrangement, the soft-as-rose-petals-organ, the shuffling rhythm section, Willie Mitchell's nuanced production...that song definitely gets played four times in a row when I listen to it.
