Now that MTV is 25 can we retire them? Just like MTV does to old videos on TRL, just like athletes do when they are past their prime, can MTV just walk off into the distance. MTV has become a shell of what it once was, and honestly Videos are long gone at this point, they arent what they once were. So i think MTV should graciously take a final bow and call it a day, just like New York Hot tracks did, Just like Friday night Videos did, just like so many others did. Unless they are planning to take a total 360 and be what they once were, a nonstop parade of videos, something that seemed like it was almost independant and somewhat dangerous to normalcy, but now all it is, is a vehicle for the "suits" to promote what they want hyped, maybe its time to play the Buggles video and finally just pull the plug on MTV. Sounds like a good idea. By their own standards, they're practically over the hill anyway. Be gone. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Only if they take what's left of BET with them, with the exception of the BET awards.
Hey, after seeing Prince with Stevie, Chaka, Yolanda and Indie on this year's show. I owe them that much.

Finess said: Hell yeah! I was 11 and witnessed that day at my "well to do" cousins' house. (If you had cable tv in the hood back then, you were considered "well to do") I remember babysitting and cleaning neighbor's houses for the next 6 months and giving all my money to my mother just so she would get cable and mtv for my 12th birthday. Back then, MTV was the real "Must See TV"! Times have so tragically changed!!

Yeah i also remember not having MTV early on, and only getting to see it when i went to my see my cousins and relatives that lived in new jersey (it seems that how must of us saw mtv). But the think i remember was in 1986 probably late spring, this network called "U68" came out, it was nonstop videos, and stuff that even MTV wasnt playing so i have heard, the network was a local new Jersey station and it was on channel 68 for regular tv's, basically you had to tune it in, move the antenna around so it was semi-clear when u wanted to tape a video. They were the first to play a-ha's "take on me" though mtv swears it broke the video, but like all good things this station got taken over by a home shopping network, somehow i think it wasnt supposed to play videos anyway, it seemed like it was just hijacked, it was an amazing summer though, between that and the 86 mets what else could u ask for. No one watches MTV for the music anymore. Most kids only watch it to see episodes of "The Real World" Yo Momma" and "Pimp My Ride" These shows have nothing to do with music. I think it's time for a name change. Ideas anyone?

I couldn't agree more. MTV needs to be put out of its misery ASAP. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

YTV (Youth Television) They emphasize the youth so much in their programming, they might as well rename it to that. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Whatever happened to The Box?

MTV bought that channel out and moved MTV 2 to that. Granted, MTV 2 had already been around a few years by that point, but The Box had more distribution around local cable outlets in the country and in Canada than MTV 2 did at that time, so MTV used that to expand MTV 2 to more markets. What's really sad is that MTV 2 was touted as an all-music, all-the-time alternative to MTV, yet they now show a bunch of the same reality crap that MTV does.

MTV2 was interesting for about one weekend, then it just became just like MTV showing reruns of shows that MTV was showing. MTV didnt even celebrate its B-day, maybe ITS also JW. I just think the video era is dead, at least on the cable/record industry.
say what you want bout MTV, but they saw the idea a good 10 yrs ago. I dont care for the channel but at the same time I dont fault them for being progressive. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.
