Minneapolis Funk? Give me some groups who played "Minneapolis Funk"-kind of music or just funk bands from minneapolis.
I only know about the prince-related artists like The Time, Sheila or Apollonia 6. Give me more!

Ready for the world I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.
I am not taína. Taíno is in me, but there is no way back. I am not european. Europe lives in me, but I have no home there. I am new. History made me. My first language was spanglish. And I am

The first time i see them mentioned here . i found Bromar 2 years ago on a record-fair . Le Klass has been in my collection for many years . Scored at a cd-bin once . Jak's album is ok . The stand-out track imo is Get Up Everybody which sounds a little like a mix of Prince & Jesse .

bobsteezy said: CLayton Savage (bad) Awyeah , i remember buying a sealed cheap copy at a record-fair . After one single listen , it got a steady parking place in the shelves . Just wanted to keep it for a future-database i'm working on and for placing it at related-forums like these bobsteezy said: Jakky Boy & The Bad Bunch (one good song) Got a few faves 4 myself : 1983 - Salsoul Records - I Need Your Love - Holdin On - Angel Baby 1985 - Atlantic Records - Rock Your Body - Teaser bobsteezy said: Da Krush (bad) I would have to take it a second listen , can't remember but it's that bad ? bobsteezy said: Exotic Storm (bad) The track & album-opener , which is the strongest imo . Visually & vocally , leadsinger Dezzrae could be family of Dez Dickerson who had also some input with that album . [Edited 7/30/06 6:40am]

I believe they were from twincity . Monte Moir produced some tracks . The Party Rebels-track stands out . Can easily be mixed into The System's Pleasure Seekers .

Keni Towns actually changed his name to Akello (can't remeber his last name right now) but he worked (produced/wrote tracks) on one of the later Alexander O'neal records (the ones after Love Makes No Sense)

ain't no way we can talk about "Minneapolis Funk" and not mention The S.O.S. Band. 'cause as we all kno,(or for those who don't know) it was with them that Jimmy and Terry found their spark and the phrase "Minneapolis Funk" was coined.....

I only know about the prince-related artists like The Time, Sheila or Apollonia 6. Give me more! Check out the 1987 album "Hearsay" by Alexander O'Neal (recently reissued) produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (formerly of THE TIME). One of my favourite albums - and the Minneapolis funk is all over that record - especially the track 'FAKE'. I saw Alex in concert last year on Valentine's Day and he did a whole Minneapolis funk interlude in his set - complete with Morris Day-esque dance routines. He even yelled out "Who likes the Minneapolis Funk?!" The man knows how to jam. He was originally lined up to be the lead singer of THE TIME, but due to a disagreement with Prince, Morris Day was picked instead.
