Michael Jackson is a cool guy, always has been and always will be in my opinion. I don't buy in the that media B.S who don't give him credit for the amazing music by trying to write him out of music history.

I dunno about write him off, but compared to 10 years ago (yes after 1993), the printed music press often fob him off as a 2 album wonder [ugh], during those "'list' shows when Thriller comes up they get a bunch of young "hip" artists to come in and slag it off like it wasn't relevant to them personally.
HOWEVER, I don't think it's just MJ, just black artists in general. I remember that Music Of The Millennium show HMV did in 1999 and Stevie Wonder and Prince weren't even mentioned, whereas Madonna was hailed as some single handed saviour of the 80s, and the 70s was summed up by white rock bands.

"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

But MJ could have control the way the media and public viewed him. I know the media like to "build them up and Knock them down" so whatever he had done that scenario would have happened. I also know that the media and society like to give white artists more recognition than black artists(I even started a thread about that), but the onslaught of jokes, ridicule and overall dis-respect that he gets today wouldn't have happened if MJ used better judgement in conducting his life. The plastic surgery should have stopped with Thriller. If indeed he really does have a "skin disease" he should have been a lot more up-front about it from the beginning, instead of waiting for Oprah to put him on the spot in 93. It something he could have mentioned earlier; I mean what were people to think when both his colour and features were changing, practically at the same time... When it comes to the children, if indeed he wasn't "abusing" them, why not put up barriers to to protect himself from allegations that were bound to happen if you were carrying on the way he was. All these things were in his control, but he choose to ignore everything. MJ has been around long before Prince and Madonna. He was influencing and inspiring people, before he reached his teens, well before OTW and Thriller. He has a brilliant career and has contributed so much to music. His legacy shouldn't be about ending up as punch-lines on late night shows.. Anyway that's enough of my ranting...since this thread is not about that.

Maybe he didn´t want to talk about it because it was not as spread. Maybe he didn´t expect to become white all over. Maybe back than it was just spot here and there and it was not as serious for him to address it publically. Who knows. But whatever the reasons he had, he did eventually talk about it so we should get over it by now, don´t you think, guys?
