Any House music fans here?

Hi folks, this might sound a bit dumb but here´s the situation: I´ve been listening to House for years now, either at clubs, parties or on the radio, but I simply don´t have a clue, I just happen to like certain kinds of House music, like Vocal House where some lady sings rather simple lyrics to a melodic beat. I´m absolutely NOT familiar with the genre itself and all it´s subdivisions because I mainly grew up listening to Funk and HipHop so now I would like to know if there´s anything you could recommend. I don´t mean commercial stuff like Adeva from the early 90s but more underground stuff, like some sampler or a Best Of collection. I heard the Masters at Work released a nice album a couple of month ago but what else is out there for someone like me who´s simply looking for some nice, melodic House music with a nice hook and some decently sung lyrics ?

What I call house is never really house music.

Where are the music educators around here?

Is St. Germaine any kind of house music? I've just picked up Arabian, Latin and African cd mixes from the Six Degree Label and while it reminds me a little of DJ stuff and St. Germaine, is it house music?

err

Sounds like you like the same kind of house that I like. I couldn't recommend anything new (because I really haven't heard anything to catch my ear) but I can recommend some house from the early to mid 1990s such as.....

Anything with Martha Wash, whether it's her solo album, the Black Box album, etc.

M People is a great kinda "funk meets house" sounding group.

Robin S.

Clubland

Pat & Mick

The 49ers

2 In A Room (hip house)

Mr. Lee (hip house)

Dee-Lite

Cee Cee Penniston

Kym Sims

Crystal Waters

La Bouche

Jomanda

Those are a few off the top of my head. I would have to go home and dig through some old cassettes to tell you more.

Thanks for all the replies and the recommendations but I´m afraid those artists are not what I´m looking for.

I know most of those people and find them a bit too commercial for my taste, especially Crystal Waters and Adeva or Black Box...that´s some commercial disco stuff. I´m talking about something completely different.

I´m just finished listening to JamFM´s weekly program of House music and I will post a short tracklist of what they played today ( exctly my taste, by the way...lots of beautiful and simple keyboard melodies accompanied by some great female singers with lightweight , but nice, lyrics and some heavy beats.

I will post it tomorrow as soon as it´s online, or go to their website to see for yourself.

Maybe Miguel Bulcao is right and there are really differences between US-House and European house..mind you, I AM NOT talking about Eurotrashpopbeats here, I mean serious, deep underground vocal house music.

But I will check out those artists mentioned by all of you that I´m not familiar with, like those in Finess´ post .

Most of those on Vainandy´s list I´m familiar with, but thank you nevertheless. It´s just not what I´m looking for, Mr.Lee, BlackBox , Crystal Waters etc . is not really considered true house music over here.

But I will post a short list tomorrow to give you guys an idea of what I mean .

The direct link should be www.housejam.de

Sounds like the type of house I like. I use to be really into the more commercial artist but I truly love underground. I never bother talking about it because I dont know who the artists or the names of the songs especially if its an instrumental track. I just dont have the time or interest to follow that closely anymore. Now I just have a friend make me mixes and Im very happy with that.
