JANET FANS WANT MTV TO STOP HATING: Fans on singer’s Web site say network is behind ‘conspiracy’ to ignore new video;

From Eurweb.

Once you turn 40 MTV closes the door on you.

JANET FANS WANT MTV TO STOP HATING: Fans on singer’s Web site say network is behind ‘conspiracy’ to ignore new video; plus, Janet finds sexual equal in J.D.
Gunfire breaks out at Jermaine's party last night

*Is MTV conducting a vast right-wing conspiracy to keep Janet Jackson’s new video “Call On Me” out of rotation?

Fans on her Web site www.JanetJackson.com certainly believe that the music channel, owned by Viacom, wants to punish her personally for the 2004 wardrobe malfunction that resulted in a $550,000 FCC fine leveled against 20 of their CBS stations. (CBS announced Friday it would appeal the FCC decision).

Janet heads are wondering why MTV – which jumped all over recent high-profile returns by Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce and Jessica Simpson – has not given Jackson’s clip featuring Nelly the same ad nauseum treatment.

In addition to the proposed Viacom conspiracy, fans on the Web site also claim that voters have been hitting the MTV.com message boards “in droves” to request the “Call on Me” video…only to have the majority of their posts deleted, allegedly, by the network.

Fans pointed out that even BET premiered the video on Wednesday…but failed to mention (or wasn’t aware) that BET is also owned by Viacom – which pokes at least one hole into the conspiracy theory.

MTV has yet to comment on the conspiracy allegations, but a source there told Giant Magazine that the reason is because: “The song just really isn’t very good.”

Meanwhile, Jackson has put all of her bedroom business in the street through an interview with Essence magazine. The conversation swung around to sex, and Janet admitted that she was always the aggressor – until her first time with current beau, Jermaine Dupri.

"I feel like I finally met my match," she tells Essence. "In relationships it was always the guy telling me, 'OK, hold on, wait a minute.' I'd ask my girlfriends, 'Aren't we supposed to be the ones who say, 'Wait, not tonight, I have a headache?’ This happened through two [marriages] for me. I thought something's not right here. But with Jermaine I don't have to say anything; he knows I'm ready. Any time, any place."

Related news ...

In Atlanta, WSB-TV is reporting that at least three party-goers were wounded when shots were fired early this morning at a party thrown by Janet's lover man, Jermaine Dupri. The shooting happened at the Atlanta Peach Ballroom on Buford Highway.

Three female partiers were hit by shots and were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. The event was the culmination of a series of weekend parties sponsored by Dupri's So So Def Records.

There was no mention of Janet being at the event

laurarichardson: The first line of your post said it ALL.

But that's the politics, baby. There comes a point where you're too old for MTV. It was that way at the beginning, it's that way now, and it will always be that way.

Janet reaped the benefits when she was younger. But on the whole kids aren't going to adore the same artists their parents listened to in high school.

Now that she's older (not OLD), she's got to adjust.

Her formula for success is pretty much obsolete.

A little off topic from the MTV shunning but I am disappointed that she put her private business with JD and past partners in the street. Was that supposed to make us more likely to buy her cd? Its all starting to look pathetic. She should put her clothes back on and try something different. And no one is paying their hard earned money to hear her moan and mumble through another cd. C'mon Janet. U can do better.

The next thing ya know, she'll be selling JACKSON FAMILY SECRETS on a 1-900 hotline. disbelief

I hear ya, but you know what's up.

Personal drama sells for divas. Mariah has thrived on it.

Throwing one's personal business in the streets also sells. Ask Beyonce.

You better preach dreamfactory313. That was just lame and she needs to stop with all this sex shit. It's old. My thing is this, is this CD any good? That's all I care about.

That 1-900 number wiil be in operation soon enough too.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

well MTV had MADONNA ON THEIR trl show... and madonna is like 50. her video went to number one... and i never heard madonnas song on the radio... even though i dont listen to the radio that much... when im in the car i might.. .and i have heard janet's song CALL ON ME.. on the radio... so how can MTV play a video from madonna that wasnt played on the radio and Not play janets new video when her song is all over the radio.... you could almost say madonnas song hung up wasnt popular... i think janets song is more popular than the two songs that madonna previously released a while ago

Do you think Janet's "obsession" with Sex has something to do with growing up with all those brothers; watching girls go into a frenzy about the Jacksons? or is there something more sinister going on here(because I don't think her talk of sex is just all front ) Or does she just have a healthy sex drive..

'Hung Up' was massive on Itunes..so that says a lot about radio's perception
of 'popular'...

I'm with you on this. And now that she's 40 she's probably borderline nympho. Either way it's not sexy anymore. That ended back on the Janet album. Surprisingly, I actually agree with MTV, “The song just really isn’t very good.”

That song that "just really isn’t very good” just climbed:
12-9 at Urban
20-18 at Rhythmic Top 40 and
25-20 at Urban AC.

Urban radio and BET are behind the track.

what's your point? there are lots of songs that "just really aren't very good" climbing the charts. i haven't heard it, but saying it's climbing the charts isn't an indicator of a good song.

Umm...it's not the only indicator, however, it's a pretty good one.

Obviously, the call out research at these three formats indicates people like the song enough to justify increased spins and audience impressions each week.

"Call On Me" currently has 53 million+ audience impressions at radio.

none of that goes to the quality of the song, which you were commenting on.

Read my post again.

I didn't say commercial success was the only indicator of a quality song.

It's *one* way to judge but not the only way.

implying that increased radio airplay was an argument against the song not being very good. shrug

I haven't paid attention to a radio or sales chart since the early 90s. Not even for my most beloved pop artists have I glanced at one.
