FOLEY ( Miles Davis , Arrested Development ) Last year i've seen some kats & kittens posting about this dude & discussing a new track from him which i tried to locate . So which fans are digging his album from 15 years back ? Having followed him from the Miles Davis hey-days and seeing him perform 2 memorable times with Mr. Davis got me hyped when his album came out . He played awesome solo's on his credited " lead-bass " . There's an impressive allstar-cast on his project . It's a combination of solid tracks , instrumental intermissions , and speaking quotes ... in other words , a great musical collage . The track that still hits me deep is September 28th, 1991 , the date that Miles passed away . He wrote in the cd-booklet , while composing it , that Miles went @ the same moment . The 3-parted track of Who Did What? / Black Dog / We Did What!!!! is wild ! C** 'Round (Parts 1 & 2) and R U Gonna B - (with Mavis Staples) are 2 other of my fave jams on there . A deeply freaky hip-hop suite that flies in the face of R&B fashion, like the Bomb Squad with George Clinton at the controls ..." - Rolling Stone (07/08/1993) http://cgi.ebay.com/FOLEY...dZViewItem About 3 years after that album , i saw him one more time performing with Lenny White . When i firts started to surf on the net , i found his site including great and hilarious interviews ( innerviews ) with different artists . http://www.smartalecmusic.com/ I'm still trying to find a snaphot or the video from him with Arrested Development . Anyone remember that ? Give it up 4 FOLEY ! [Edited 7/30/06 14:32pm]

Ndeed!!!! Foley's is Da Man!!!! Incidentally, I may have some of those recent trax you were referring to.... and I agree, September 28th, 1991 is an incredible piece of music...he sums up so much of his feelings toward Miles in that brief, but poingiant statement....Larry Dunn did a great job on the orchestration, too! ... After having started this thread , i replayed the complete album again that night . That's the fun thing after posting about certain tracks or albums .... give it another spin . And i hadn't played this piece of funk for a few years . But the memory of the first listening-sessions remain strong . Brings back parties i had with friends and playing some jams of Foley's joint . Some intermissions between tracks with spoken stuff on there is any now and then a little blurry sounding ( phone-talking , etc ) , but include some deep anecdotes . Larry's add is absolutely classic . . . . [Edited 8/1/06 8:26am]

Foley was way ahead of his time fo sho.
I see alot of folks still influenced by this guy. His "Smartalecmusic.com" is influencing the way alot of folks do interviews. And, his site is bringing alot of truth. but, I'm not so sure if people are ready for the truth anymore. I just read his latest news.. and judging the racial/musical climate on these boards lately? some of ya'll need to READ THIS: http://www.smartalecmusic.com/news.htm Can someone post the RES/Foley/Dez trk again? my itunes bit the dust & I had to re-install I lost everything Appreciate it in advance! One of those something you'll never forget experiences. 100MPH said: Foley is like D'angelo. That's what I gather. His close friends or musician peers hear his work but he doesn't feel any time pressure to put anything out. Plus he got Prince,Miles and George's attention and approval early on. I think that did something to his psyche like, "I don't need anything. These legends gave me their notice" Although I would have liked to see the Mo Jazz label put some money down for a Teddy Riley remix. But that's just me. Now that time has passed. Bugs N the Attic/4 Hero/Jazzanova perhaps?

Bugs N the Attic/4 Hero/Jazzanova perhaps? I can dig what you're saying Trick.. but, the PUBLIC needs to hear this dudes music man! True music listeners take an "L" when a guy like Foley doesn't have product for us to hear. but, I could definitely see why, if that is the reason for the "lapse" in releases and, btw D'Angelo's problem is Himself & Drugs. Foley just stikes me as someone who doesn't care for the limelight. "Who gon' clean up all deez Flowers" ----Eddie Murphy as mr. clarence
