I thought their songs were catchy enough, but did not love them or hate them. I thought they were one or two hit wonders at best.

They were ok, I guess. I never really understood why people stopped liking their songs after finding out they weren't the same guys from the video.

I never brought "Girl You Know It's True" but I liked their songs and sang along to them when the videos came on. It was fun dance music and perfect for that time in 89-90. It's a shame what happened but that's the music biz. Too bad we can't pull a Milli Vanilli and get rid of half the acts on radio who can't sing today. evillol

New Kids lip-synch a little bit too. But they also use their real vocals without the studio effects. Apart from Jordan & Joey, they weren't great without fx's.

wink Guilty as charged, in 89 and 90 when I was like 13 or 14, to me they were the shit, I got both of their albums, All or Nothing and the US remix album (never got in Motion though). I just loved their stuff and Terence T Darby, I remember working all day in a blueberry orchard in January 1990 just so I could get the $14.95 to buy a Milli Vanilli tape, I played it all the time. Then in August 1990, they played a show called Sister Kate on TV which had a cameo appearance by Milli Vanilli adn I thought it was strange they sounded like Colonel Klink when they sounded totally English speaking in their videos and shit. My brother said they were lypsynching and I told him to shut the fxxk up!

Anyway November 16 1990, its on the radio, Milli Vanilli confess to lypsynching on the songs, I went crazy and smashed my tapes, ripped my posters and all, I didnt want to believe it, I was inconsolable. One good thing happened I started to listen to my Grafitti Bridge tape a bit more and decided this Prince guy was the one!!!!

Anyway in 1997 I made my peace with them and bought and old CD copy of all or nothing at a flea market for 50 cents, I still listen to it now and then, Money, Boy in Tree, I'm Gonna miss u and Girl u know its true are all strong songs u know.

falloff Thanks for reminding me about Sister Kate! I forgot all about that silly show!

They were at least 4-hit wonders. IIRC, "Girl You Know It's True" peaked at #2 while "Baby Don't Forget My Number," "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You," and "Blame It On the Rain" all went to #1. I never owned the album, but I'll readily admit to enjoying the singles. I still say they should've kept the Grammys.

Isn't it obvious when someone lip synchs "live" just by listening?! Were people really surprised?!

Just like it was mention on Behind The Music:

It wasn't so much that music industry experts were piss because MV were lip-synching to vocals that were never their own, but it was the fact that they were TOO successful because of it.

I never liked them. I was just old enough to see that most of the top 40 was crap, and I remember being really happy when the scandal broke.

Actually, in retrospect, the songs aren't that bad, but I think I reacted to their awful dancing. Funny, they didn't sing, but they couldn't even dance! Weren't they discovered in a dance club?

It isn't just pretty girls with no talent who make it!
