CEE-LO from Goodie Mob & Gnarls Barkley

I'm shure his background has been mentioned in Gnarls-threads , which i lacked to take the effort reading . No offence .
His vocal skills came to my attention when i saw an early video from his former group , Goodie Mob .
It was all downsouth-style , like Outkast .
Then i heard him sing on the Outkast-song Do Time , from the Soul Food-soundtrack .

Back in the day with the Goodies

The current Mob

Personally , i can't be bothered anymore with Crazy despite the great voice of Cee-Lo .
Unfortunately , it has already has been played too much on commercial radio . Wish them all the succes nevertheless .
I must say though to have heard a great acoustic version of Crazy , which is a fresh add . Have to check the artists name .

Coming October , Cee-Lo will co-operate with the following act :

The Heart Attack is a new collabo between Mr. Cee-lo Green and Jack Splash of Plant Life.
Some soulful 70s type ish. Bring on the album.
You should also definately check out the Plant Life album entitled The Return of Jack Splash

Cee-Lo is the man as far as I'm concern. As a songwriter, Don't Cha was his biggest hit for PCD.

You can find it here.....

The person is Ray Lamontagne and it is a very good cover.

Can't say enough good things about Cee Lo to me. I love hearing the acceptance he is gaining.

Here is a link to another The Heartattack (Jack Splash colab) jam. I sure do hope that this sees the light of day. Song is called Gangsta Boogie. I love the breakdown on it.

I know that he is to do a Goodie reunion album as well, but he has always wanted to do *his thang* as shown on his first two solo albums. Plus their breakup was an ugly one. I hope he continues to do *his thang*. I wonder if a Goodie reunion would be a step backwards.

Love The Heartattack teases, but I really hope that we get some new solo stuff in the no so distant future.

Later

ps; His album with Jazze Pha (Happy Hour) has not come out yet either.

In my opinion his solo stuff kills that Gnarls Barkley crap. Yes I said crap damn it. It's overrated. Get over it!

Ottensen

I like him. Seems like an affable kinda fella. Sadly, I can't bring myself to buy his records because I saw that ghastly show "My Super Sweet 16" where he dropped a quarter mil on his daughter's party and that child struck me as the most horrid, ungrateful ingrate I'd ever seen in a teenager... and I just can't give my money to support those kind of values.

..I still wish him all the success in the world though lol

Playing the song slower and dragging out the sentences doesn't make it a great cover. To me, it's like he just sucked the life outta the whole thing.

But hey, thanks for sharing! lol

I love Gnarls and think they are great, but I do agree with you on the following point. I also prefer Cee Lo's solo stuff. But the beauty of Gnarls to me is that it is making people notice Cee Lo and give him the time of day now, when they would not before.

_____

Like Cee Lo says on "Die Trying",

"So here it is, an invitation to an open book
A painful past my heart is still broken look
Look, I know you don't hate me,
I'm just not assured that anyone appreciate me.
See, I've been havin' a hard time sellin' my album's lately.
In recent news, The Source couldn't find any microphones to rate me,
Usin' words like "extreme" and "alternative" to equate me.
Which is true, I'm in a box with a view, but you still wanna gate me?
I could be a pretty good thug, but it wouldn't compare to a great me.
The final cross to bear is mine it's not a cross to share
But isn't it ironic I still woulda bought a cross to wear
That obviously cost to wear but considerably less than the price that it costs to care
Now I have another loss to spare I doubt em say that I can't win
Even though I know talking intelligent just ain't in
You most likely to go broke when you just can't bend
So me and JJ both gon' have to pay bills

Listen
People still standin in line at the World Party for some Soul Food
To get put back in that old mood
They say we like the new 'Lo
and we respect everything that you trying to do 'Lo
Do what you do but just do more that you know
It's a catch 22 and I couldn't cry
Now I'm under oath with them both and I couldn't lie
Cussed 'em said that I'm too dope and I coudln't fly
But you getting rich talkin shit so why shouldn't I
I'm just playing but I guess that couldn't go without saying
I'm just gon ride this revolution until they stop me where I'm stayin
But I ain't gotta lie to ya to make it sound fly to ya
I keep my feet on the ground and bring the sky to ya"

_____

He has been trying to break out of that Goodie Mob thug routine for years now. Just so he could do his thing and be appreciated. I do not think that will be a problem in the future, because of Gnarls.

Here is a link to Cee Lo talking about his other projects. No mention of the Jack Splash colab.

Cee Lo is as REAL as it gets.
