Chris Cornell to record new Bond theme song

Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell is to write and record the theme tune to the new James Bond film, Casino Royale.

The theme for the 21st Bond film, in which Daniel Craig will debut as 007, is titled You Know My Name.

A film spokeswoman said Cornell's music was "both soulful and tough" and "the perfect complement" to the film.

Casino Royale will receive its world premiere in London on 14 November. The film is released three days later in the UK and US.

US rocker Cornell was previously the singer with Seattle rock group Soundgarden.

He joins a long list of famous names who have recorded songs for Bond films, including Madonna, Sir Paul McCartney, Duran Duran, Shirley Bassey, Tina Turner and Nancy Sinatra.

Many of the songs from the early Bond movies have become classics, such as Bassey's Goldfinger and Sinatra's You Only Live Twice.

But recent efforts like Tina Turner's Goldeneye and Sheryl Crow's Tomorrow Never Dies have proved less enduringly popular.

Casino Royale is based on the first of Ian Fleming's celebrated spy novels.

I love Chris Cornell and I love many of the Bond themes, but Bond themes are not about emotional singing. I have a bad feeling about this. sad

I really like him too. But he's probably the last person that comes to mind when one thinks Bond. That's probably why it will work. I still want to see him in a Jesus Christ Superstar remake. But this sounds interesting.

Wow, that would be cool. What about Hair? lol

Back to the thread title, there are few singers qualified to pull this off and Mr. Cornell is on that short list.

Hehehe, funny. The Bond Theme Song has been in decline. Them using Sheryl Crowe and Madonna was a sign of weakness, I thought.

I am very curious about this one, though. I will wait it out.

I agree. It could be a good song, though (just not a great Bond theme). I just don't get Chris Cornell as opposed to Audioslave....

Ever listened to his solo effort? Now THAT is music. Powerful singer/songwriter stuff (I know, sounds like a paradox). This album is one of the best I ever heard (this includes a lot of Prince's albums). It's Chris at his best... it's too bad he's *only* doing his Audioslave thing.

Yeah his solo album was awesome. I really respected him til I heard some live recordings. He's a studio singer, maybe he fucked up his voice or something in the early days but yeah his concerts don't compare to the studio.
"Tough and soulful"... Am I the only who had gut wrench reaction to that phrase? Sounds like a car salesman.

Hey Wolf,

Thanks for the message. I actually saw the man live in Paradiso when he did his first solo tour. Amazing performance. Captivating.

Not when you look at who said it.

Yes. If the new song is anything like "Preaching the End of the World" it will be perfect.

I like his later Soundgarden stuff better. But "Can't Change Me" is good.
