Any of you remember Urban Dance Squad?

I might be a bit nationalistic here, but i am giving props to the best band to ever originate from my homecountry, the Netherlands.

In my opinion they are often far overlooked, when they made some great CD's that can not only stand on their own quality, but also influenced numerous musicians after them.

A quote from allmusic.com:
"Urban Dance Squad's mix of rock, rap, funk, ska, folk, hip-hop, and soul signaled the trend toward genre-bending that prevailed in '90s music"

Their first two records 'mentall floss for the globe' (1990) and 'life and perspectives of a genuine crossover' (1991) are brilliant mixtures of funk-rock with other musical styles, building further on what Living Colour and Fishbone achieved and at the same time influencing the Metalrap of the nineties, not all good of course, considering Limp Bizkit... lol.

Rage against the machine was formed after the members visited a concert of the Urban Dance Squad in LA.
Urban Dance Squad also showed this 'cut and paste' attitude towards music, mixing very different styles, strange samples and turntable work before Beck became popular with that kind of features.

Urban dance Squad had a little hit in the US with a 'deeper shade of soul', but apart from that i think they dont get the props they deserve. They were one of the first and best 'postmodern' bands in my opinion. They disbanded because of internal (musical) differences, but i might say they are on the great forgotten bands of the 90's.

My Old Room mate found one of their records and bought it. It was surprisingly, a lot better than I thought it was going to be.

I only recently got hooked on them due to digging out 'Fast Lane' on the Pump Up The Volume soundtrack, so I downloaded a few more tracks and love them all. Would you believe that no major UK record store even has them listed on their systems, not even as imports? Idiots. They're on Amazon though so I'm going to invest sometime soon.

Saw them back in '91 in Ann Arbor, MI when they opened for Living Colour. Urban Dance Squad was the real reason we went to the show and it was worth the price for them alone! BTW... "Hitch-Hike Heidi" was tha S&*t!!!!

I've met leadsinger Rude Boy last year in an Amsterdam comicbook-shop .
Cool and deep dude . Was very determined about his musical drive .
Gave me some tips how to run your own business in whatever branch .

After UDS , he joined the group Junkie XL .
Haven't heard their albums but they might be worth to check .
