Z Cult Question; Your All Time Favorite Hendrix Song?

I've wanted to ask this in a thread for some time now but I would always forget to run it. Then, on funkpill's thread "Who Knows" and then me screaming like a 11 year old girl at a David Cassidy concert (that's for you Aud!) after recieving the mind blowing info The Audience so casually laid on me, reminded me again of this question that had been lurking in the hallways of my brain; If someone placed a pistol upside your temple and said that you could only pick ONE song, which Hendrix song would ya'll choose as your favorite ALL TIME Hendrix song? As difficult as that is for me, personally, being that I have so many faves from Jimi, for different reasons, it may be clear cut for some of u other Hendrixphiles. And I know ya'll are out there. I'll go ahead and say what my all time fave Hendrix song is right out the gate;

Bold As Love

What's yours?

Bold as Love is an incredible song, kind of overlooked, too.

Freedom, Purple Haze, Voodoo (both), Burning of the Midnight Lamp and many others all hold special places in my heart.

But if I choose one it will be big:

1983... A Merman I Should Turn to Be--though I can really only imagine it with the songs before & after it

If cornered, i'd pick one that...

A) Showed him at his most experimental.
B) Where he created his Hendrixian Universe and took you for a visit within it.
C) Let you experience as many sides of himself as possible, especially the more sensitive one.

...that being said, it would have to be 1983...(A Merman I Should Turn to Be)

Good question!Probably "spanish castle magic".There are so many that I like.My cousin asked me to make him a sampler of stuff I liked.he used to only listen to Funkadelic,Prince, and the Isleys.I ended up making 3 cd's worth of stuff and that was hard. I don't think I've ever really met a Hendrix or Bob Marley song I didn't like.

Damn..So many to choose from. If I had to pick one off the top of my head it would be "Little Miss Lover". So much funk and soul going on in that cut.

"Who Knows" would be my 2nd fave for the same reason.

I'm not a huge Hendrix fan, but my dad and brother are, so I grew up listening to him alot. I've always like "The Wind Cries Mary". My mom had an old acoustic guitar, and I'd try to play the riff from it. I was no Jimi disbelief lol

eek i've been trying to decide between the two myself.

but could easily think on these : Izabella, Freedom, Red House, Rainy Day Dream Away..... Still Raning Still Dreaming. but since there is some fourplay involved[gun to the dome] i select.....
some how i can't help but to think of the Temptations when i here the intro on Ezy Ryder .. probably a vibe Whitfield was feeling during the Temps Psychedelic era.

I don't think I could pick just one song from any artist I love but I'll try.

1983...(A Merman I Should Turn to be)
or
Are You Experienced?

Both are futuristic psychedelic funk workouts.

His Woodstock performance of "Red House."

He was spunky. His phrasing is absolutely crazy (especially at the start of the solo, the way he keeps referencing the Db (the third). I just love it. His playing was fluid, it was great. And, his tone... disbelief I love that tone.

How gorgeous a tune is that one huh? Awesome vocal from Jimi. Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell's sensitive and tender playing is great as well.

Good choice. 1983 is a stellar composition, performance AND Production. For some reason, I never even considered it to be a song perse, cuz that seemed to be such a limiting tag for such a grandoise piece.
