ThreadBare said: Where should one start with them? All I know is "Ghetto Heaven." Id start w/ Connected. This is easily one of the most slept on R & B albums ever. ANd thats really no exaggeration. From start to finish this thing goes form serious grooves, achingly beautiful accoustic,, to straight up jams(did I say jams?) Anyway, thats where I'd start. From there Id go to Moon In Scorpio, which is REALLY rock oriented. Classic material. Then of couse theres Chain, which includes Ghetto Heaven. But wherever you start you cant go wrong. A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

Stand fans want to talk shit about this album because SSV aint on it but this album to me is Far more solid and superior in many ways to the first 2 stand albums. Sandra has such an excellent voice but Jacki McGhee more than filled her shoes on this venture. That girl can blow. There is some amazing shit on this album and I recommend it HIGHLY. It ranks among my most favorite albums ever. SSSSSLLLLLEEEEEPT on..... [Edited 7/27/06 17:55pm] 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

[Edited 7/27/06 17:55pm] While I liked the songwriting I have to admit I was very frustrated at the prospect of the Stand having a new vocalist and shelved this after a few spins. Not a knock against Jacki McGee, she did fine. I hate to cop to this, but I prayed for SSV to tank. Her urge to go solo was depriving a great band of it's potential for greatness. I hope this new album puts things in the right groove. I'll go dig out my copy of CONNECTED over the weekend. test

I love SSV's voice as well and while a band like Brand New Heavies losing N'Dea Davenport was simply worse for it because nobody they ever picked could touch her glorious voice, this was not tragic at all as Jacki really delivers the goods. They replaced one strong singer with another and I don't think they could have been as deeply R&B with SSV like they were with this album. I think they wrote around her voice and it worked very very well. . [Edited 7/27/06 18:10pm] 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Actually, the song, Education Of Jamie is right up there with the best Prince. Funny. Obviously TFS bit a lot off Prince, but I always thought, overall, they were cuts above Prince. Before you fams fly off the handle, bear in mind I'm a real flaky Prince fan and TFS was rising up during a "high flake" period (post BATMAN, pre-SYMBOL). test

I'm glad they had the discs available. Good deal for me. The shipping costs were more than the product. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Family Stand is a breath of fresh air in an era of BS. Then and even more so today. Glad they are back. I hope they don't try to follow current "trends" and just be themselves.
Moon in Scorpio is a classic on any level. Bottom line. If people are wondering about them and see that album for less than a dollar, get it! 'nuff said. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.
