40 Licks...
...is another option (40 vs 21 tunes) that can be had currently for less than $10. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Why don't you ask for Stones fans here to suggest a "mixtape" of Stones classics?
Some of mine would include: Gimme Shelter Street Fighting Man You Can't Always Get What You Want (Love You Live) Honky Tonk Women (Love You Live) Midnight Rambler Tumbiln' Dice Coming Down Again All About You One Hit To The Body Harlem Shuffle Love Is Strong Start Me Up Take It So Hard (From Keith's "Talk Is Cheap) Aretha's version of Jumping Jack Flash (Aretha did a great vocal and she played piano with Keith on guitar and Steve Jordan.) Anyway, you get the idea. You can go to ITunes and make your own personal mix. the "YCAGWYW" from "love you live" always brings tears to my eyes. you can feel keith's pain when he's playing on it. now i know what this is all about. now i know exactly what i am.

I would go with Forty Licks. It's by far the most comprehensive. I can understand the love for Hot Rocks but you're far better off just buying the studio albums from 68-72 than getting that one.

I'm afraid I'm gonna have to disagree with everyone here and suggest
Singles Collection: The London Years It's just about the most comprehensive overview of the stones from the outset of their career to the end of their prime that's ever made, and most of it is songs that weren't on the original albums (although some were added to the US configurations of the albums). Oh and it includes everything that's on Hot Rocks and much much more [Edited 7/27/06 19:40pm]

At least you didn't put "Undercover of the Night" (I think Q Magazine said that was their last great single...no!).

I heard Aretha's version on the radio the other day and it sounded better then I remembered. Well that's a quite a declarative statement. If you're talking about a set encompassing material that includes the original 5 lads (BJ Rules!), then you've got a good point. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn.
