MR. ME TOO - Clipse f/ Pharrell (JAM IT OR SLAM IT) After the earthquake god-stomp of You Got It 4 Cheap Vol. 2, it would be logical to think Clipse's first post-hiatus original would obliterate like Juggernaut vs. Barry Bonds. But no. Internalizing the potent rage of their mixtapes, Pusha and Malice choose to ooze instead. Sinisterly minimalist, the track's queasy Neptunes hiss sneers white noise while its lone tambourine shakes like a funk brother with Parkinson's. As an appeasing gesture to confused hip-hop DJs nationwide, the producer with the name and the face goes first, still trying to perfect his Aspen/Versace/Bape riff. It's passable, but a challenging inquiry from Pusha sets the tone, "Been two years like I was patty wagon cruisin'/ Streets was yours, you dunce-cappin' and kazooin'/ I was just assumin' you'd keep the coke movin'/ But I got one question: [The fuck] y'all been doin'?". Brushing off pretenders without lifting arms, such scoffs sting. And the Clipse don't degrade their product for mass consumption on this comeback single, even when dishing out some hood Houdini trickery for the kids: "Pyrex stirs turned into Cavalli furs/ The full length cat, when I wave the kitty purrs (meow)." Pusha concludes his masterful verse with an earnest apology and an industry slap: "I'm sorry to the fans but those crackers weren't playing fair Jive." (According to recent reports, Clipse have finally reconciled with Jive Records, who will soon release Hell Hath No Fury. Slyly unafraid, "Mr. Me Too" isn't exactly what we expected, but it may be what we need. - pitchforkmedia.com Watch and listen: http://www.youtube.com/wa...20ME%20TOO Will u JAM IT or SLAM IT? Pass. Trying too hard to be "Drop it like it's Hot"...but without any of the good parts. Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify

IMO, this song is NOTHING like DILIH. The beat is much more sinister. This is not a dance record. Malice and Pusha's verses melted my earphones when I first heard this joint. Pure fiya. It has all of that "make your neck snap back" feeling of their 2002 mega hit Grindin'. Its good to have the Clipse back. Its been way 2 long. [Edited 7/27/06 15:14pm]

I also hate that song so you can call me 'Mr. Me Too' I guess. Hip-hop has never been this corny.

When you have critics talking, not about melody and chord progression, but about tones...it says something. I guess when you lose one thing you get sharper in another. In a few years the kids will be able to discern the subtleties in static. The quality of ones static may be what determines if it's a hit or not. Sad and interesting at the same time. i'm feeling nauseous. i was very disappointed with this vid visually and lyrically. isn't blinging old yet? Pharrell reminds me of those kids growing up who always bragged about how many toys they had. is materialism the new spirituality or something? Shit, i wish black folks would at least get into the business of manufacturing luxury cars, fine liquours and mining precious stones. that way at least we'd have a powerful marketing tool to sell these things with. i'm sure you can ask the CEO of any luxury car company and he'd say the same damn thing that the makers of Cristol had to say.
what happen to the revolutionary hip-hop? or is dead prez all that's out there?

Id rather listen to the Paris Hilton remixes she has out, pharrell has run out, he will have to fade out for a few years like puffy did in the late 90's. Thats what happens when all you do is make beats that sound the same and sample, not much you can do with that "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F
