BTW, both Chad and Pharrell actually play instruments. Chad plays tenor sax, bass guitar, keys and percussion. Pharrell plays guitar, keys, and percussion. They met while in high school playing snares in the marching band. Chad was a student conductor. Pharrell co-wrote the 1992 hit Rump Saker by Teddy Riley's Wreckx-N-Effect while still in high school. The Neptunes formed in 1994. The rest is history.

Also, Pharrell and Timbaland were in a band called Surrounded by Idiots wich featured Missy Elliot. Tim also plays keyboards, guitar and percussion.

Gotta roll with Timbaland.

The Sleptunes cheat people. They are lazy. They write "beats" and pass them off as songs. They borrow from some of everybody and still end up with minimalist tracks. Timbaland experiments. He actually tries to write arrangements. I've seen Pharrell play. He's okay on drums and boards but it doesn't show in his writing.

Who were the exact band members.

I know Timbaland was probally the drummer and Pharrell was probaly the keyboardist. What was Mago, the rapper/singer. I know Chad wasn't involved but was Shae part of the group.

Im not sure of the exact configuration. No Shae wasnt apart of the group. Magoo played a role though.

What was the time period for Surrounded by Idiots.

Was it before "Rump Shaker" in 1992 and Timbs work with Jodeci 1993 or was it in bewteen 1993-1996 befor they really made a name for themselves.

I like the Neptunes for their melodies but ultimately I gotta go with Timbaland for the undeniable beats and Aaliyah and Missy and erthang else.

I think these are the best two producers out right now. But if you had to choose, which do you prefer Timbaland or the Neptunes.and why.

If THIS was about hip-hop only, I'll vote for Timbo because he is the best hip-hop/rap producer ever (right behind Dr. Dre of course.)

But if THIS is about music production in general, then THE real winners are The Neptunes because they dare to be different from everyone else (despite beat-biting the Prince sound sometimes!).

BTW, I miss their atler-egos, N.E.R.D.

EDIT: For hip-hop, I vote Timbo.

The big Neptizzle

I think they have a higher ceiling than Timbaland. Tim is a funky funky beatmaker though.

The Neptunes have too many hits that I really like and or did like until the club djs went too far... I Just Wanna Love You (Give it to Me) - Jay Z. comes to mind.

They did Usher's "U Don't Have to Call" - I love that one. "Truth or Dare" by N.E.R.D. "When the Last Time You Heard it Like This" - The Clipse - ...Those are bangers.

...They even made me like a couple of Justin Timberlake songs. omfg

Wasn't that them on No Doubt's Hella Good? That sounded like a Prince song.

B.
We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams.

Neptunes. Timbaland is a one-trick pony and he bores me, except for his stuff with Aaliyah.

Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams win this battle. N.E.R.D. puts them over the top.
