Non Syrupy Love Songs

I have to play at a wedding in September, & I'm worried that my band doesn't do enough love songs.

The girl getting married is in her late 20's, she requested Going to California by Zeppelin, so we're learning that.

We're a rock band, so I don't think we'll be doing Endless Love, more like Moondance

What are your favorite love songs?

If I were in a ROCK group, I had to play some Love Themed tunes, here are a few i'd pick.
These are not necessarily tunes I like, but ones I know would get the job done.

For non-syrupy, ascerbic, irony-laden love songs, you can't beat The Dan...

Your Gold Teeth
Got a feeling I've been here before
Watching as you cross the killing floor
You know you'll have to pay it all
You'll pay today or pay tomorrow
You fasten up your beaded gown
Then you try to tie me down
Do you work it out one by one
Or played in combination
You throw out your gold teeth
Do you see how they roll

Pearl Of The Quarter
I walked alone down the miracle mile
I met my baby by the shine of the martyr
She stole my heart with her Cajun smile
Singing voulez vous

Rose Darling
Rose darling come to me
Snake Mary's gone to bed
All our steaming sounds of love
Cannot disturb her in her night
Or raise her sleeping head
All I ask of you
Is make my wildest dreams come true
No one sees and no one knows

Green Earrings
Green earrings
I remember
The rings of rare design
I remember
The look in your eyes
I don't mind

Time Out Of Mind
(hopefully nobody will know what this song is really about lurking )
Son you better be ready for love
On this glory day
This is your chance to believe
What I've got to say

Some more traditional random picks.

Uptempo...

Can't Get Enough, Honey Child - Bad Company
It's Only Love - Bryan Adams
I Saw Her Standing There - The Beatles
Let's Spend The Night Together - Rolling Stones
She's A Beauty - The Tubes

Downtempo...

Waiting for a Girl Like You - Foreigner
Baby, I Love Your Way - Peter Frampton
This Is It - Kenny Loggins
Is This Love - Whitesnake
You Belong To Me - The Doobie Brothers
Drive - The Cars
More Than This, To Turn You On - Roxy Music
Love Is The Answer - Todd Rundgren

Whitesnake TA? I'm speechless!

I like Drive, More than This, Never Tear Us Apart (we've tried that one once), Every Little Thing She Does..., Wonderful Tonight

I'd love to do some Steely Dan, I'm not sure if the others can handle the changes, but it's worth a try.

We're rock, but we can handle r&b, too, as long as it's not Whitney or Jeffrey Osborne.

I know, I know biggrin
I definitely don't like every song we do, but as long as someone does...

I just though of:
I Believe in You--Dylan, though it's a love song to Jesus, I think.

U2's gotta have something

I thought of some Stevie:

Creepin
Joy Inside My Tears
As

Beatles (duh!):

Something
All I've Got To Do
I Will
You've Really Got A Hold On Me (Smokey)
Don't Let Me Down
For You Blue
Two Of Us
If I Fell

incognito

1. Into The Mystic by Van Morrison. Blues/Rock category, IMO
2. I Want You by Third Eye Blind
3. Forever In My Life by Prince (you can make this a rock song. I saw a heavy metal band perform Prince's Sign O The Times and was blown away).
4. Simple Man by Lynard Skynard

thumbs up!
I'd also name-check I Saw The Light, It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference and Hello it's me as songs that get their point across without being wimpy about it.
