BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!! BlaqueKnight hit the nail on the head. Because Beck is a critic's darling, everthing the pastiche maestro does is praised to the high heavens.

Call Peta, someone is strangling a cat, imagine if Prince sounded like that.
Beck is wack, and there was nothing genius about that performance.

calling beck a pastiche artist is a bit of a played out comment too imo

but on the other hand i don't see how Debrah is sĂșch a prince-like song
in the first place. it's a soul kinda song but if someone told me pick
1 song from his catalogue that's most prince like, i wouldn't pick this
one.

perhaps something off Guero.

The performance of Debra is as satirical as the song.

And you're dead wrong on Beck as an artist. I used to think the same way. But he's been making better music than Prince lately.

nothing that prince has done in the last 10 years could amount to one of his albums..

well, that's not hard nowadays, I think Beck is average overall, I just don't get the praise, and I'd still rather dig into Prince's last albums.

I understand your preference for Prince's music, but how much of Beck's music do you own? Have you heard Sea Change or Guero yet?

Midnite Vultures has its ups and downs, but it's meant to be a fun record.

If singing in falsetto is a tribute to Prince than I guess this is it. Otherwise, it's just a cool Beck tune off of a cool album.

Thx for posting it.

He's really more than that.

And everybody, that whole song is a satire of the slow jam. Listen to the song itself. It's about a white boy trying to ball on a budget. The fact that any given white boy can't pull it off like a soul master is the POINT OF THE SONG AND THE PERFORMANCE.

He's definately trying to sing, dance and act like Prince on that clip. The problem is he comes off looking more like David Spade.

Pity because his voice ain't bad.

I don't hear it either. Dude was off key from the very first note. I couldn't get through an entire 2 mins of that bs without my eye twitching and my teeth being on edge.
