Marie Antoinette - The Soundtrack (Cure, New Order, etc.)

The soundtrack for Sofia Coppola's film supposedly contains these songs:

"Natural's Not In It" - Gang of Four
"I Don't Like it Like This" - The Radio Dept.
"Jynweythek Ylow" - Aphex Twin
"Pulling Our Weight" - The Radio Dept.
"Il Secondo Giorno Instrumental" - Air
"Keen On Boys" - The Radio Dept.
"I Want Candy (Kevin Shields Remix)" - Bow Wow Wow & Kevin Shields
"Hong Kong Garden" - Siouxsie and the Banshees
"Aphrodisiac" - Bow Wow Wow
"Fools Rush In (Kevin Shields Remix)" - Bow Wow Wow & Kevin Shields
"Plainsong" - The Cure
"Ceremony" - New Order
"Tommib Help Buss" - Squarepusher
"Kings of the Wild Frontier" - Adam Ant & The Ants
"Avril 14th" - Aphex Twin
"What Ever Happened?" - The Strokes
"All Cats are Grey" - The Cure

I haven't heard good things about the film, but that's one hot soundtrack. And the trailer I've seen is just a video for New Order's "Age Of Consent". I might see the movie for the music alone. hmmm

Great soundtrack. I still have zero interest in this film. Unfortunate, because I've loved both of her previous films. I think she excels at music choice for her films.

I think I read that it got booed at Cannes--which I can totally understand. An American director and a bunch of American actors making a movie about French history that is at times factually incorrect--that's a tough sell in France.

Still, watching that trailer gave me a craving for the latest New Order singles comp.

I only have a few 12" singles--no New Order albums. This would be my very first one. boxed

Thanks, but I prefer silver CDs and packaging. The only things I download are mashups and iTunes exclusives.

Just to clarify, the above songs are known to appear in the film according to imdb.com. An official CD soundtrack listing has yet to be revealed.

I think the trailer for this movie is possibly the best trailer I've ever seen ever. The juxtaposition of the music and the period pieces were just so much damn FUN!
No idea if the movie will be good, but I know I'll be seeing it for that alone. lol.

Of course, there's a reason. lol I wouldn't blindly dismiss it. The trailer didn't intrigue me, nor does (generally speaking) Kirsten Dunst. With rare exception, I think she has zero presence on screen. I liked her in Virgin Suicides, Cat's Meow and Dick but that's about it. I didn't even realize it was a Sofia Coppola until her name flashed at the end of the trailer. Even then, I just sorta shrugged. I wasn't reassured by its reception at Cannes, which admittedly, seems a bit overblown.

Might as well be a Wes Anderson film with that soundtrack.

The only thing I've heard about it is that it is a somewhat modernized version of the story. I've only seen Lost In Translation but from that I think she's a very strong filmmaker. Besides, the reception at Cannes was probably 2 people booing and the rest of the audience neutral .

As a film maker, I love her. The Virgin Suicides is one of favorite films in the past 10 years. There's a lot of texture (both visual and aurally) to her films, and that intrigues me. It's just nothing about this leaps out at me. I'll see it eventually I presume, but I have no interest at present.

But it's a Sofia Coppola film. Have you heard that it's unlike her earlier work? Or do you just think it's not the right topic for her, or she'll muck it it up or she's trying to be something she's not? Or she's hit some kind of low point?

(Sorry for all the questions. I'm just trying to figure why you wouldn't see a new film by one of your favorite filmmakers. lol)

fishslap Pay attention! lol 1) trailer looked bad and 2) bad advance word and 3) lack of interest in the lead. Like I said, I'll likely see it eventually. Altman is my all time favorite director, but I haven't even seen all his films in the theatre. I waited for DVD on both Company and Dr. T and the Women. I ended up at least liking both, but didn't feel an urge to see either one of them in the cinema.

lol Okay, I just watched the trailer so I'm more informed. lol It's a period piece gone all hip with a hipster soundtrack. Extravagant costumes and settings mixed up with cool music and sex. The kind of tone probably only she could pull off. But since she's a good writer, I think it could be better than the trailer.

Of course France would be annoyed. It looks extremely irreverent and Americanized. They must hate it!

Are you French? hmmm

No problem. I never dragged myself to Year of the Horse even though it was a Jarmusch flick.

It's kind of out of character for me (too commercial), but I really admire Tim Burton films.

I also love Pedro Almodóvar, but his films are harder to track down. There are a lot of his that I haven't seen--mostly the early ones.

I've always been turned off by his films, something about the way he portrays women bugs me, so I've pretty much avoided them. Talk To Her wasn't bad though...interesting and weird.
