I hear Britney Spears puts on a perfect performance key wise. How can she not with her lip syncin skills? I'd take Bilal posessed by some scary ass spirit bein moved in his craft than a boring ass perfectly preened fake ass bitch. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Oh this is nothing compared to the concert I went to a couple of years back of his. (I've told that story here before numerous times ) He was even MORE fucked up on that night. We were laughing so hard we all had tears running down our faces. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

This represents all that is Bilal... the guy who's the crazy cousin you don't wanna invite to the barbecue, but you know he's gonna put on a show so you invite him anyway. Exactly. Just what entertainment needs. A shot in the arm from the boring ass walking back and forth with the cooler-than-thou expressions for no reason. Nobody with talent cuts loose these days. That's why the old school tours sell out and most of these new performers can't pack a large club. Entertainers are supposed to entertain; even if it makes them look avant-garde. Everybody's afraid of not looking "cool". All the songs are tracked because no one wants to sound like they ever make mistakes. All the moves are choreographed because no one trusts natural movements anymore. Its sickening. Good to see something that looks REAL for a change. Dag. Did I write that? Word. I don't know anything about "his demons", as others here have posted... I don't know if he's "on something", as others have posted. Sure he was off slightly on the Leno show... And? Does that warrant total judgement? ALSO... Do some of U find it disturbing 2 see an R&B artist getting a little out there? I hate 2 say it... but what if it were a... ahhh forget about it... Did U all check out the 2nd link someone posted here to a realplayer clip of him live? I had a friend tell me a while ago that Bilal needed some new material, and he would hook us up. I shoulda done something about that. I never heard "1st Born..." At least Bilal plays with his voice, and isn't afraid 2 really vocalize. U all realy have 2 check out that second link... here... I'll go find it 4 U... Anywho... BLAQUEKNIGHT... U R dead on with this one. Peace. G. [Edited 7/27/06 7:05am] "He's a musician's musician..."

Yeah, me either. But still, I'm like "Go head bro! Do your thang!" Wasn't crazy about the brother's solo (he was a brother right?) but at least he can play. The Purple Haze bite coincides with the latest Chilli Pepper song which bites on Purple Haze as well. I see the stage is being set for things to come. that is SOOOO TRUE! I am so tired of over-the-top-too-slick choreography. What ever happened to just letting the music take your body where it wants to?

I wasn't crazy about that solo either - it wasn't anything to brag about. Eubanks was probably guffawing about it in the corner. But make no mistake about it: Bilal is one of my favorite vocalists.

I can dig it. I can get with what he's doing, overall, cuz he's an artist. I'll support homeboy if for no other reason than the fact that he's a brother doing his thing. And not all of that other fabricated, copy cat, no real instrument having in their music, sounding just like every other knucklehead shit that's passing for r&b today. Being classically trained doesn't mean anything. Prince wasn't classically trained or had opera lessons. I've seen Bilal before and I know that's his "thing". I actually think he's talented singer. And I'm speaking based on that particular footage. Don't get offended. IMO, as a performer I don't feel you have to sound and act erratic in order to get your point across. I found it distracting and pointless, like he was trying hard to be weird. People make the world go round'.. It's whatever. Some folk dig em' some folk don't. Exactly!

I remember when he did this, it was a few years back. There was a reason he picked this song.
Bilal had just did a free concert at the south street seaport. He was a BRAND NEW artist then. Even I, a mucisian that always kept his ear out for fresh new music only hear like one of his songs. When he went through most of his songs he was constantly seeing how the audience was reacting to hearing his stuff for the first time and how it went over live. There was a time during a slow song he stopped the band because he felt the crowd was bored. (we screamed for him to keep playing) And another time someone blew up a beach ball and sent it out into the crowd. Bilal immediately stopped the song he was doing and asked what kind of concert did we think it was. And wouldn't continue until the beach ball was removed. The best crowd reaction came when he did "Fastlane", with his guitarist going into the Jimi song, I think he felt that would go over well on Leno. Also, don't forget Dr. Dre produced this song. One of the conditions of giving Bilal this song could have been that he had to do it on air at Dre's request.

Well, from a business aspect it's definitely a stop you wanna make doing pub - HOWEVER... Jay is corny, the audience is corny, the mf's who watch it (for the most part) are corny - the shit is corny amen. i just can't hang with people who like/watch Leno. it's creepy to me. is it that hard to switch over after the local news to watch Letterman? (unless it's that 3 a.m. re-run of Leno they show every night. sometimes i watch that, just because there's nothing else on)
